Director of Accounting

Empath Health is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Accounting to lead and oversee the organization’s accounting operations across all entities. This role is critical in safeguarding organizational assets, ensuring financial integrity, and delivering accurate, timely financial reporting that supports executive decision-making. As a key member of the finance leadership team, the Director of Accounting will drive process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and build a high-performing accounting function. This leader will partner closely with executive stakeholders to ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements while supporting the continued growth and mission-driven impact of Empath Health and its family of programs. What you’ll do Lead and manage the accounting function, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting across all entities Establish, monitor, and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements Oversee monthly close, general ledger, audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting processes Develop and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and reduce reporting lag time Partner with executive leadership to provide financial insights, variance analysis, and support strategic decision-making Build, develop, and mentor a high-performing accounting team Why Join Empath Health? What you’ll need Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s and/or CPA strongly preferred 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in healthcare, hospice, or human services Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls , and experience with audits, tax reporting, and regulatory compliance Proven leadership ability with experience developing teams, combined with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Advanced proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office , with experience in Workday accounting systems (required) What you’ll Find at Empath Health Unified in empathy, we serve our communities through extraordinary Full Life Care for All.
