The position is located in San Xavier/Covered Wells, AZ.Position Summary:Under general supervision, provides leadership and coordination for all aspects of KOHN's promotional events, remote broadcasts, and related activities designed to present KOHN positively in its community of service; participates in long-range strategic planning and assist in fundraising efforts. The Community Affairs Director is also responsible for keeping KOHN in compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) programming regulations and the standards set by the KOHN General Manager.The major work activities are generally undefined except in terms of achieving overall organization/department goals. Specific policies, procedures and guidelines are virtually nonexistent except for executive directives and accepted professional standards. Reports directly to the KOHN General Manager, or designee.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Fosters positive community relations and promotes community awareness of KOHN's programs, services and events.Analyzes promotional needs of KOHN and offers input and recommendations for direction of all aspects of brand and programming design for on-air and print promotion elements. Recruits volunteers for scheduled events and appearances.Assists the General Manager and assigned staff in the scheduling of events and activities. Communicate events and activities of interest to volunteers and assigned producers by every method available.Assists in the development, review and recommendation of KOHN policies, procedures, systems and forms designed to improve KOHN operations.Ensures that KOHN promotional events and activities comply with Management and Federal Communication Commission (FCC) requirements.Produces in conjunction with KOHN staff, public affairs programs and specials for KOHN listeners designed to promote KOHN's commitment to local issues and community service.Assists in preparing annual budget and budget modifications regarding KOHN promotions.Evaluates promotional campaigns, analyzes results, and makes recommendations for increased effectiveness.Participates as a member of the management team in long-range planning and ongoing station operations.Plans, develops and directs KOHN promotional campaigns.Maintains individual and departmental calendars, appointments; coordinates and arranges meetings as required for related promotions.Recommends and coordinates KOHN's participation in various community events; ensures adequate materials, technical and staffing support are provided. Attends and represents KOHN in public relations/liaison capacity on matters relating to events.Acts as contact for public information regarding KOHN's programming. Creates correspondence, memos, minutes, agendas or reports from drafts, recordings or verbal instruction. Performs other job related duties as assigned and contributes to a team effort.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Knowledge of the Tohono O'odham culture, customs, and traditions.Knowledge of applicable federal, state, tribal laws, regulations and requirements. Knowledge in radio programming and production.Knowledge of business writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation.Skill in providing superior customer service to external and internal customers.Skill in operating computer programs and software, preferably with some experience working with Windows, and other PC-based applications.Skill in handling multiple tasks.Ability to work extended hours and various work schedules to include holidays.Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks and meet strict time lines.Ability to exercise independent judgment.Ability to plan, assign and review the work of assigned volunteers.Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public. Ability to work with and motivate team members.Ability to maintain privileged confidential information. Minimum Qualifications:Associates Degree in Radio Broadcasting, Communications, or closely related field, and three years' work experience in community development services, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and work experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.One year of supervisory experience.Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:Upon recommendation for hire, a criminal background check is required to determine suitability for hire, including a 39-month Motor Vehicle Record. May require possessing and maintaining a valid driver's license, (no DUIs or major traffic citations within the last three years).If required, must meet the Tohono O'odham Nation tribal employer's insurance requirements to receive a driver's permit to operate program vehicles. Based on the department's needs, incumbents may be required to demonstrate fluency in both the Tohono O'odham Language and English as a condition of employment.
