Lead Electrician

Position Summary Lead Electrician responsible for coordinating the construction, maintenance, and repair of electric power, lighting, and communications systems in College buildings and other facilities. Other duties may be assigned. Minimum Qualifications One (1) year of advanced study or training beyond the high school diploma or equivalent. Three (3) years of related experience. Master Electrical License issued by the State of Texas. Valid Driver’s License with insurable capability. Required Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and local codes and the ability to incorporate them into design and work. Knowledge of electrical test equipment and ability to interpret the results. Knowledge of MEP systems and related work systems. Knowledge of power tools, materials, and safe work practices used in the electrical trade. Knowledge of electrical applications for high voltage and low voltage systems. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional or similar applications. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Effective organizational and planning skills. Skill in installing, repairing, and maintaining all types of electrical system equipment and components. Skill in computing electrical circuit loads and power requirements. Skill in following and maintaining effective working relationships. Ability to read and understand electrical blueprints, schematics, and shop drawings. Ability to generate electrical shop drawings and specifications. Ability to work independently or as part of a team. Ability to install entire electrical systems, including conduit and wiring. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve electrical wiring and circuit issues. Physical ability to perform moderately heavy work, lift up to 50 pounds, crawl, and work outdoors during inclement weather. Job Duties Interpret College policies to electricians and enforce all safety rules; interpret specifications, blueprints, and work orders to workers and assign tasks; maintain time and work production records. Recommend measures to improve work methods, equipment performance, and quality of work products; suggest changes to working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency; establish or adjust work tasks to meet work schedules; assist workers in solving work problems; supervise; handle budget responsibilities related to the area of responsibility. Plan wiring and installation of equipment and fixtures such as motors, generators, switches, circuit breakers, fuse boxes, lighting, and appliances; inspect wiring and fixtures for conformance to College specifications and official electrical codes; estimate, requisition, and inspect materials; perform and oversee workers. Provide first‑level supervision of other DMC Electrician(s), including assigning work orders, scheduling work, and providing performance evaluations. Perform other related work as needed or assigned.
