Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Puyallup, WA

General Information:

• Level III Trauma Center
• 375 Licensed Beds
• 46 Specialty Beds (including 5 Safe Psych rooms and Fast Track areas)
• Average of 200 patients per day
• Minimum of 2 years of Emergency Department experience required
• First-time travel nurses welcome

Patient Types:

• Comprehensive care: pediatrics to geriatrics
• Common conditions: Trauma, GSW, sepsis, COVID-19, STEMI, stroke, DKA, mental health issues, respiratory conditions
• High acuity medical cases
• Notable geriatric population (falls, STEMI)
• Minor pediatric cases typically transferred to specialized facilities

Patient Ratios:

• Day shift ratios: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients (flexible based on acuity and staffing)

Required Certifications:

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
• CPI/MOAB (Crisis Prevention Intervention / Management of Assaultive Behavior)

Skills Required:

• General Emergency Department experience, including cardiac rhythm interpretation
• IV skills and administration of medications
• Proficient in procedural sedation and blood administration
• Experience with TNK administration preferred
• Familiarity with cardiac medications
• Recent experience with the EPIC charting system is required

Support on the Unit:

• ER Technicians for glucose checks and additional support
• Access to 24/7 Respiratory Therapy
• Dedicated Charge Nurse who typically does not take a patient assignment
• Resource/Float Nurse available
• ED Educator present for guidance and training
• Security and Social Work Services on-site 24/7
• Pharmacy support around-the-clock for medication management

Charting System and Equipment:

• EPIC (recent experience required)
• Alaris and Pyxis systems
• Telemetry monitoring from both central and bedside locations

Orientation:

• Day one includes onboarding (NEO) and EPIC training if needed
• Day two consists of a full 12-hour shift with a preceptor
• Traveler Telemetry Competency must be completed and passed before starting

Scheduling:

• Open to 48-hour contracts
• Shifts available include days/mids and mids/nights
• Scheduling is done week-by-week, but may be subject to change based on unit needs
• Schedules provided three weeks in advance and time-off requests must be approved by the Nurse Manager
• Two major holidays required out of five: Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day
