Job Description and Duties
The Chief Deputy Director (CDD) formulates and recommends policies and objectives, designs and implements strategic direction, and advises the DIR Director in opportunities to maximize operational efficiency in its daily operations. The CDD also leads a team of executives and manages the oversight of day to day operations, departmental program evaluation initiatives, and strategic plan priorities and oversees changes to processes, policies, and systems to ensure effectiveness and creating/supporting a work environment consistent with the Department’s core values of innovation, accountability, compassion, and customer service.
This is an exempt executive assignment (at-will) position, non-tenured, full time, and is appointed by the Governor’s Office. This position consists of both in office and telework and can be based out of Sacramento or Oakland.

The incumbent is regularly required to remain in a stationary position, communicate and to work at a computer for extended periods of time and to move and transport office items in a safe manner.
The incumbent will be required to travel occasionally.
Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview, but they must show proof of residence in California prior to being eligible for appointment.
Special Requirements
The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff at all levels, both within and outside of DIR. The incumbent must handle sensitive and confidential materials and matters in a professional manner and must exercise good judgement, data acumen, and strong organizational abilities.
