Position Description: The Crisis Specialist performs the general functions as a mobile crisis responder and working with clients on follow up services with the additional crisis follow up programming. This includes phone calls and in person follow ups with clients who have utilized Elevate mobile crisis services. This position may also be working with court ordered diversion services and mental health committals as needed. This position does require the use of personal vehicle so dependable transportation is a must.

Position Summary

1. A mental health professional as defined in Iowa Code section 228.1

2. A bachelor’s degree with 30 semester hours or equivalent in a human services field (including, but not limited to, psychology, social work, nursing, education) and a minimum of one year of experience in behavioral or mental health services

3. A law enforcement officer with a minimum of two years of experience in the law enforcement officer’s field

4. An emergency medical technician (EMT) with a minimum of two years of experience in the EMT’s field

5. A peer support specialist with a minimum of one year of experience in behavioral or mental health services

6. A family support peer specialist with a minimum of one year of experience in behavioral or mental health services

7. A registered nurse with a minimum of one year of experience in behavioral or mental health services

8. A bachelor’s degree in a non-human services-related field, associate’s degree, or high school diploma (or equivalency) with a minimum of two years of experience in behavioral or mental health services, and 30 hours of crisis and mental health in-service training (in addition to the required 30 hours of department-approved training

Job Responsibilities:

· Provide on call services during working hours Monday-Friday. This involves being dispatched with a partner for mobile crisis calls in the Black Hawk and surrounding counties.

· Completing in person and phone call follow ups to crisis response clients

· Work with community partners and collaborate regarding follow ups, and what mobile crisis services entail

· Provides excellent patient driven care and demonstrate superior positive regard to all clients

· Function in a multi-tasking, multiple priorities environment while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail

· Complete required documentation and maintain accurate records within the Electronic Health Record.

· Remain available to clients via phone during working hours.

· Provide referrals for services to clients as needed

Qualifications:

· Crisis Intervention with experience in suicide intervention, and postvention

· Knowledge of community resources

· Experience assisting people with addiction, relationship difficulties, depression, stress, extreme poverty, mental illness, parenting etc.

· Dependable transportation

· Possess a valid driver’s license and provide a certified driving record if transporting clients or coworkers

This is a remote position so you must have high speed internet and a designated work area to complete phone calls and documentation that follows all HIPAA and confidentiality guidelines.
