Material Handler - General Plant/Production

Material Handler (B Crew) Reports to: Production Supervisor Job Overview This position will support all production operations to optimize output, minimize waste, and maintain excellence in quality and safety standards. The handler is responsible for the timely delivery and pick‑up of material to production areas, meeting scheduling and production needs to achieve plant production standards. Job Dimensions Part of the AF Mundelein Production Team Hourly, non‑exempt, no direct reports Schedule: Rotating 12‑hour shift – 6:00am to 6:00pm Must be available on alternating weekends and some holidays Principal Accountabilities Package and wrap finished goods to specific customer requirements Issue and receive raw and sub‑assembly material to the production floor Provide roll‑stock and pallets to the production floor Assemble, monitor, and weigh production‑generated scrap gaylords Demonstrate proper use of a lift truck and maintain forklift‑license certification Deliver and return material substrates to production equipment to meet scheduling and order requirements Unload plant supplies Demonstrate effective interactive skills to support production and scheduling activities, meeting customer needs, requirements, and plant goals Qualifications / Requirements Brings correct manufacturing material to the line Returns material to the correct storage location and labels it properly Stores sub‑assemblies in the racks and maintains status of products and bays Maintains corrugate returns and recyclables Education & Certifications High school diploma or GED required Associate’s degree and/or industrial certification preferred Skills / Abilities / Behaviours Good computer skills Can work well with others and self‑motivated Strong mechanical skills Strong attendance and safety record Ability to stand and walk for the majority of a 12‑hour rotating shift Ability to read and speak English Ability to follow verbal and written directions Physical Demands Lifts up to 50lb. continuously Opens heavy machinery for up to 12hours per day Stands for up to 12hours per day on a rotating shift, up to 5 days per week Operates a forklift (stand‑up and sit‑down) for up to 12hours per day Occasional twisting, turning, or bending to move items up to 50lb.
