Job Summary
The Advocacy Coordinator provides professional staff support, coaching, supervision and guidance to Court Appointed Special Advocate volunteers (up to 30), ensuring that children served by the CASA program receive sound advocacy and permanency planning. The Advocate Coordinator is responsible for volunteer supervision and coordination of cases.
R esponsibilities
- Work with volunteers in order to achieve a safe and permanent home for children
- Maintain awareness and sensitivity to service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics and integrate this into supervision of volunteers and child advocacy
- Complete CASA pre-service volunteer training & new employee training
- Work collaboratively with volunteers for on-going strategies for advocacy
- Maintain on-going communication with volunteers, forming relationships, and supporting their advocacy needs
- Quarterly meetings with volunteers face to face
- Create Action Plans with volunteers regarding new and ongoing case assignments
- Attend Staffing, Family Team Meetings, & all other pertinent social services meetings
- Gather information pertaining to the cases
- Occasionally attend home visits with volunteers when warranted
- Help locate resources for children and families
- Accurately document all activities performed in the capacity of the position
- Document case activity on each case
- File up-to-date documents received by court and collaterals in electronic case files program
- Guide and assure that the volunteer develops and retains relationships with foster families, DCFS workers, and all parties related to the case
- Attend all court hearings and track court dates
- Prepare volunteer to provide written and verbal testimony to the court when needed
- Collaborate with volunteers regarding written CASA court reports
- See that all parties involved receive a copy of CASA’s court report
- Monitor judicial docket; manage case assignments
- Daily track activities and complete timesheets
- Prepare and participate in pre-service and in-service volunteer trainings
- Actively staff cases with supervisors
- Actively recognize volunteer contributions and performance
- Evaluate volunteer job performance yearly using the CASA evaluation process
- Attend and participate in all required in-house staff meetings
- Attend conferences, seminars, trainings, and meetings as requested by the Executive Director of CASA
- Participate in performance evaluations of this position
- Participate in fundraisers and special projects as assigned
- All other duties as assigned by your Supervisor or Director
Requirements
- The position of Advocate Supervisor of CASA of Lafourche requires a bachelor’s degree in a social service-related field and at least two (2) years post-degree work experience is preferred.
- Experience in training, volunteer supervision and management, child abuse, and foster care preferred.
- Skills necessary for success in this position include interpersonal, organizational, supervisory, written and oral communication, conflict resolution, problem solving, leadership, and computer/technology.
- The Advocate Supervisor or Advocacy Coordinator of CASA of Lafourche should be energetic, self-motivated, flexible, goal oriented, creative, and encouraging.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team while also demonstrating initiative in problem-solving and decision-making processes.
