Role Overview: Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency

Full-Time Opportunity in San Francisco, CA

(At least 50% of time dedicated to administrative duties)

Since its inception in 1954, our Internal Medicine residency program has a rich history of preparing future internists for careers in primary care, subspecialty medicine, and hospital medicine. The program currently accommodates 45 residents and two chief residents , with each intern class comprising 7 preliminary interns, 10 categorical interns, and 2 residents enrolled in the combined Internal Medicine/Master's in Public Health track.

We are privileged to host several ACGME-accredited fellowship programs at our San Francisco location, including Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Hematology/Oncology, and Nephrology, along with non-ACGME one-year fellowships in HIV Medicine. Collaboration with our affiliate Internal Medicine programs in Oakland and Santa Clara is also a key aspect of our operations.

Key Responsibilities of the Program Director:

  • Foster and maintain an innovative and inclusive medical education environment that combines clinical experience with evidence-based practices.

  • Supervise program faculty and ensure their effectiveness.

  • Guarantee adherence to ACGME accreditation standards.

  • Provide mentorship to junior faculty and residents.

  • Assist in overseeing ACGME fellowship programs.

  • Manage the recruitment, selection, supervision, evaluation, advancement, and counseling of residents.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of three years of experience in Graduate Medical Education (GME) in roles such as Program Director, Associate Program Director, or Core Faculty.

  • Board Certification in Internal Medicine .

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven track record of clinical excellence, scholarly contributions, and teaching effectiveness.

  • A strong commitment to medical education and cultivating a culture of excellence.

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a collaborative and innovative training environment.

  • Experience in medical education and program development.

The base salary ranges from $316,899 to $326,700. Final compensation will be determined in collaboration with local leadership based on the candidate's qualifications and experience.
