Senior Back End Engineer, Platform

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and scale RESTful backend services using Java, Spring Boot, and Postgres.
• Develop distributed and resilient systems in AWS and Kubernetes environments.
• Create shared infrastructure services and tooling used across Altruist’s product teams.
• Mentor teams on secure coding practices and help ensure performant, resilient code.
• Use automated testing practices to maintain high-quality software.
• Collaborate with engineering leadership, product managers, and cross-functional teams on technical solutions.
• Own the design and implementation of projects with a high degree of autonomy.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience building scalable backend services at a B2B financial services, fintech, or SaaS organization.
• Proficiency with Java, Spring Boot, and REST APIs.
• Expertise in microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Strong SQL knowledge, including Postgres and MySQL.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
• Understanding of performant and reliable systems.
• A relevant B.A. or B.S. degree is preferred, though equivalent experience and understanding are valued.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Kafka, Temporal, and Snowflake.
• Bonus experience with AI best practices, particularly Claude, and AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery; GitLab pipelines are a plus.
• Familiarity with Debezium, Temporal, and OpenTelemetry.
• Knowledge of brokerage platforms and the financial services industry.
• Strong ownership, communication, resilience, assurance, and creative problem-solving abilities.
