TITLE: LICENSED PROFESSIONAL COUNSELOR
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 184-Day Contract (Prorated) GENERAL STATEMENT of RESPONSIBILITIES: The Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) provides direct and indirect student services to reduce barriers to education, increase social/emotional growth and provide links to needed services. In addition, the LPC will be part of a district cadre of mental health professionals that will receive clinical training, supervision and evaluation provided by the Exceptional Student Services (ESS) Department.PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Reports to work as scheduled on a regular and reliable basis. As a member of the ESS Department collaborates with administration, staff, teachers, families, and community to address the needs of identified students. Works with ESS Administration to analyze policies, programs, regulations, social-emotional, legal and ethical concerns in order to provide comprehensive professional development and support services. Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems related to home and family relations, health, and emotional adjustments. Monitor student progress through high school and support targeted interventions with administrators, teachers, and parents. Work with outside liaisons in support of students’ well-being (ex: Private Counselors) Support district, site, and department goals, projects, and initiatives. Monitor’s students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Is available to students and parents for guidance education-related purposes or activities outside the instructional day as assigned by the administration. Attends site and district workshops, in-services, etc., to maintain proficient technical skills and continued professional growth. Participates in assisting other colleagues. Complies with all rules, regulations, and policies of the Governing Board that related to the duties as prescribed. Typically works an additional 15 days (10 days prior and 5 days after) beyond the 9-month certified contract. Agrees that during the period of the contract, s/he will perform management duties, or other duties as assigned by the administration or Governing Board. Tier I level of support: Coordinates, develops and supervises evidence-based education and prevention programs including but not limited to bullying, substance abuse, violence/aggression, suicide/self-harm and social-emotional learning. Implements and supports multi-tiered programs and practices, monitors progress and evaluates for service effectiveness. Promotes a school climate and culture conducive to student learning. Utilizes effective practices that provide for safe environments and supportive relationships. Coordinates, develops and facilitates professional development for teachers, staff and administrators in the area of social/emotional learning, self-care and trauma sensitive schools. Facilitates and actively participates in team, committee, staff meetings and school events. Identifies and assesses for potential barriers to student academic success. Understands and offers consultation regarding special student populations - homelessness, students in poverty, refugees, victims of trauma etc. Tier II Level of support: Designs, facilitates and oversees direct services for children and families that include assessment, crisis intervention, individual and group support services, home visits, case management and advocacy. Provides supplemental education of the school’s social-emotional learning program in the form of individual and group sessions to address skill deficits. Provides crisis intervention support in the event of a family, school or community crisis or disaster. Works with district homeless and foster care liaison to coordinate services such as transportation and free/reduced meals for youth experiencing homelessness and out-of-home placement. Develops, coordinates and provides services for students, families and staff to meet basic needs. Tier III Level of Support: Establishes and promotes a continuum of community resources, services and partnerships in order to support all members of the school community.QUALIFICATIONS:
Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Therapist Valid Arizona Department of Education certificate for School Counseling, PreK-12 or Social Worker. Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC) Master’s degree in Social Work, Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. May be required to travel to perform work functions. An understanding of the factors that impact student success. A background in school counselingOCCUPATIONAL CONDITION:
Low risk - Work is routinely performed in indoor environments, including exposure to noise and being on your feet for extended periods of time. May be required to travel outdoors in inclement conditions to go from building to building for meetings or classes. The employee may be required to move from room to room through corridors heavily congested with people. Knowledge of applicable Federal, State, County and Municipal statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and Buckeye Union High School District (BUHSD) policies and procedures pertaining to social service delivery Knowledge of systems such as Court, DES, DCS, Law Enforcement and other systems that affect families and youth served by BUHSD. Knowledge of applicable BUHSD and departmental policies and procedures Reading and interpreting general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals. Writing general correspondence and speak effectively with others. Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Principles and practices of program administration. Basic principles and applications of critical thinking and analysis. Best practices, trends and emerging technologies. Principles and techniques of effective oral presentations. Uses and properties of supplies and equipment. Specialized equipment relevant to area of assignment.
