Job Title: Electrical Engineer – Control Panel Design

Job Description

This role offers an opportunity for a driven Electrical Engineer who is passionate about innovation and new technologies in an engineering-to-order environment. You will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and implementing control panel solutions for a wide range of industrial applications. Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will ensure that all control panel designs meet client specifications, comply with industry standards, and support reliable, cost-effective, and maintainable systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop control panel solutions for a variety of industrial applications, ensuring alignment with client requirements and applicable industry standards.

• Generate accurate and comprehensive bills of materials (BOMs) based on design specifications, ensuring the availability, compatibility, and proper selection of all components.

• Create detailed schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings using industry-standard CAD software such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent to clearly depict electrical connections and panel layouts.

• Perform power and system calculations, including load analysis, voltage drop calculations, and short-circuit calculations, to ensure safe and robust electrical designs.

• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical engineers, project managers, and clients, to gather requirements, share progress updates, and resolve design challenges.

• Participate in design reviews to confirm that designs align with project goals, specifications, governing codes, and industry best practices.

• Stay current with industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes to continuously improve design processes and maintain compliance with relevant standards.

• Optimize control panel designs with a focus on cost-efficiency, reliability, serviceability, and ease of maintenance.

• Support the procurement team by providing technical guidance on component selection, vendor evaluation, and specification of suitable alternatives when needed.

• Provide technical assistance during manufacturing and assembly, addressing design-related issues and ensuring accurate implementation of drawings and specifications.

• Perform designs and engineering work in accordance with job specifications and governing code bodies such as UL 508A, UL 67, UL 891, the National Electrical Code (NEC), and other applicable standards.

• Contribute to the design and integration of drive packages, motor controls, and VFD-based systems for applications such as motors and pumps operating at voltages including 480V.

• Support continuous improvement of engineering-to-order processes for customizable products, ensuring consistent quality and performance.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.

• At least 2+ years of experience in control panel design for various applications, with 5+ years preferred in a relevant industry.

• Proficiency with CAD software for electrical design, such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent tools.

• Strong understanding of electrical principles, power distribution, motor control, drive packages, VFDs, and related control systems.

• Demonstrated experience creating electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and layout drawings for control panels.

• Ability to perform electrical calculations, including load analysis, voltage drop, and short-circuit calculations.

• Working knowledge of industry standards and codes related to control panel design and electrical systems, including NEC, IEC, UL standards, and specifically UL 508A.

• Hands-on experience applying the National Electrical Code (NEC) to control panel and power distribution designs.

• Familiarity with low-voltage systems, including 480V applications for motors, pumps, and related equipment.

• Experience with electrical design for control panel solutions, including packaged drive packages and motor control systems.

• Competence using AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or equivalent CAD tools for control panel design.

• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with electrical design for packaged pump stations, including control systems for pumps and related equipment.

• Experience in electrical design for water treatment or water purification systems, including control panels and associated power distribution.

• Experience with low-voltage switchboards, switchboards, switchgear, and related assemblies.

• Knowledge of UL 67 and UL 891 standards as they relate to switchboards and power distribution equipment.

• Familiarity with engineering-to-order or custom product environments where solutions are tailored to specific client requirements.

• Ability to support quality verification and testing activities by interpreting and validating control panel designs against specifications.

• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, compliant, and well-documented designs.

• Interest in staying up to date with emerging technologies, tools, and best practices in electrical design and control systems.

Work Environment

This position is based in an office environment within an engineering-to-order facility. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday with a flexible start time between 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., supporting work-life balance. The organization designs customizable products, and all products are manufactured, assembled, quality verified, and tested on-site, providing close collaboration between engineering, production, and quality teams. You will work with modern CAD tools and electrical design software while interacting regularly with manufacturing and testing areas to ensure designs are implemented accurately and efficiently.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Dallas, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $85000.00 - $125000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
