Simulation Supervisor

Job Summary: Simulation Supervisor involves designing, conducting, promoting, evaluating and supporting health professions education programs in compliance with organizational objectives and nationally accepted accreditation standards and requirements. Supports learners (including but not limited to faculty, residents, clinical fellows, graduate or undergraduate learners, practicing or licensed professionals) in areas such as curriculum, teaching and learning activities, scheduling, core competencies, assessment and evaluations. Coordinates all activities associated with ongoing administration of health professions education programs. They also provide direct supervision typically to professionals or skilled technical employees. Applies extensive knowledge of professional health education programs and policies to manage program administration and operations, which may include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, and maintaining databases. Participates in strategizing, planning, and implementation of substantial program improvements of large scope and high degrees of complexity. Supervises staff to assure accountability and stewardship of department resources (operational, financial, and human) in compliance with departmental goals and objectives. This position is responsible for technical operations and teaching support and will be required to apply many unique skills and knowledge including; clinical, computer and simulation technology for multiple disciplines. Responsibilities will also include the planning and delivery of clinical training scenarios and program development, and community liaison, and compliance with standards and regulations, maintenance and repair of computerized manikins (software and hardware) repair and maintenance of partial task trainers and multimedia peripherals. This position will include being a technical instructor for use of simulation equipment and workshop presentations. Department Summary: The UCSF Kanbar Center for Simulation provides simulation-based training for all health professions education programs for the University which includes 3,500 faculty, 2,100 health professions students, and 1,500 residents and fellows. Simulation is defined as an educational modality with which the learner physically interacts to mimic an aspect of clinical care for the purpose of teaching or assessment. Activities at the center range from those that use actors (standardized patients), to activities with partial task trainers and/or mannequins. UCSF health professions schools continuously rank in the top five for research and for primary care training. The Center is a part of the Office of Medical Education which is responsible for ensuring the highest quality learning and teaching environment for our programs and the support and development of over 110 staff. The Center supports UCSF's educational mission by creating opportunities for teaching, learning, and assessment using simulation as an educational strategy. The center serves all five health professional schools at UCSF and provides learning opportunities across the continuum of health professions education. In addition to activities at the main facility on the Parnassus campus, the Center supports simulation across satellite facilities and in-situ at affiliated hospitals. 20 Serves as subject matter expert on simulation-based professional health education programs and educational activities. Serves as a liaison between all relevant stakeholders, which may include course chairs, program directors, department chairs, contractors, department administration, faculty, and learners. 20 Supervises simulation technicians to ensure that education programs using mannikin and task trainers are designed and supported by simulation team to meet the educational requirements of individual educational programs and these simulation activites are consistent for the purpose of assessment of learning objectives. Acts as a Simulation Technician for reporting staff when needed. 10 Supports technical innovation in use of simulation. Manages the overall delivery and day-to-day operations of a program including overseeing logistics, tracking databases[MJ1] ,and related educational activities. 15 Coordinates all aspects of large scale, complex program social events and / or educational activities, such as a summer internship program and educational sessions for K-12 learners outside of UCSF. Leads workshops and / or information sessions for learners, faculty, and staff. 5 Monitors budgets, approves program-related charges, and communicates significant changes as they occur to program management. Works with University finance colleagues to reconcile and close out health professions education budgets. Prepares internal reports for program management. 5 Develops and implements systems for learner assessment to and with program leadership. Ensures current programmatic and learner needs are met by assessing evaluation data trends; compiling and presenting data to program leadership; and actively leading and participating in continuous improvement efforts. 10 Acts as advisor to management. Provides leadership and maintains strong ties with all levels of educational program staff, department administration, and University stakeholders. Develops new approaches or methods for maintaining effective communication.Collaborates with Education Director on quality assurance projects based on learner data and feedback. 5 Serves as principle liaison between leadership and faculty, contractors, organizers, learners, and administrators with regards to all facets of the logistical operations support of the health professions education program. Functions as a lead to other health education professionals, providing direction and guidance and answering all questions. 10 Coordinates and implements technology-based solutions. Coordinates with technology departments outside of Kanbar to ensure proper functionality of equipment, and coordinates repairs as needed. [MJ1]What does this mean?
