Social Service Case Worker-Bilingual Spanish

Basic Purpose The purpose of this position is to assist clients of the Hayward Corps Social Services and Food Pantry. The role provides services to both homeless and housed clients, offering hot meals, sack lunches, clothing, mandatory routine food bags, and supplemental assistance such as rental help, outreach, phone support, donation management, and pantry organization. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Adheres to agency policies and procedures. Manages the Food Pantry, its operations, and volunteers. Oversees USDA and seasonal food distribution. Schedules shopping dates, picks up food at the Alameda County Community Food Bank, and emails weekly orders. Ensures proper preparation and stocking of food boxes, maintains inventory, and tracks all outgoing assistance in Bridges/Wellsky or other systems. Implements case‑management standards required by all funding sources, including Salvation Army. Organizes, maintains, and reports all statistical, GIK, and other records to relevant departments. Coordinates with kitchen staff to improve food service for clients. Maintains accurate and confidential case records for each client served. Enters, tracks, and reviews Bridges/Wellsky client data. Creates and sustains a housing referral system, including landlords, rental agencies, management companies, and housing authorities. Attends required training provided by The Salvation Army. Completes all required paperwork timely and meets departmental deadlines. Acts as a role model within and outside the agency. Referred clients to other agencies for additional services as needed. Maintains a positive, respectful attitude. Communicates regularly with the supervisor about program issues. Reports to work on time and prepared to perform duties. Conducts client interviews, assesses needs, and provides basic emergency assistance (food, clothing, lodging/gas cards) when available. Provides utility assistance with bills per guidelines. Manages clothing donations: sorts, shelves, and hangs them for client access; tracks all outgoing donations. Coordinates intake for holiday assistance programs. Collaborates with other agencies as needed. Solicits and coordinates donor agencies for social services donations. Arranges, picks up inventory, and processes donations. Sets up and tears down program materials as assigned by Corps Officers. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications Spanish fluency is required AA degree in a related social services field, or 1–3 years of relevant experience, or a combination thereof. Experience with housing services: accessing housing for clients, case‑management, outreach, and education. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documents, financial reports, and legal materials. Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulators, or the business community. Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License and be able to drive a Salvation Army vehicle. Minimum age of 21 years. Authorization to add name to the CA DMV Pull Notice Program. Completion of Salvation Army vehicle course training. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Physical Requirements Sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist frequently. Grasp, push, pull objects, and reach overhead. Operate phone and computer. Lift up to 25 lbs. for administrative positions. Operate basic office equipment: PC, fax, telephone, calculator, copier, printer. Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
