Project Manager (Water/Wastewater Treatment)

Position Overview We’re looking to expand our Water & Wastewater team in Charlotte, NC with a dynamic Project Manager who’s passionate about shaping the future of water. In this role, you’ll provide technical leadership and oversee the delivery of major water and wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects for our valued clients. You’ll lead project teams, manage budgets and schedules, and serve as the primary client contact—ensuring excellence in every phase of project execution. Beyond project delivery, you’ll play a key role in business development, marketing strategies, and client engagement, with opportunities to shape win strategies and pricing for new work. This position also offers the chance to mentor team members, recruit top talent, and collaborate with leaders across the Southeast Region. Responsibilities Working with an energetic and high‑performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in: Client & Customer Management: Manage relationships with small clients while also helping senior colleagues manage relationships with larger key clients and customers. Contract Management: Deliver required outcomes by managing day‑to‑day relationships with contract service providers while working within an established contract management plan. Engineering Solutions Design: Design engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a design brief in terms of functionality, performance, aesthetics, and cost that conform to organizational and regulatory standards. Engineering Standards Specification: Contribute to the analysis of information, the drafting of engineering standards and specifications, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of those standards within your engineering discipline to inform engineering work in the organization and/or of its suppliers, contractors, and consultants. Health, Safety, and Environment: Follow the organization’s HSE policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to the well‑being of self and others in the workplace. Identify patterns of risky behavior within the team and take appropriate action to resolve them, escalating serious issues as appropriate. Personal Capability Building: Develop own capabilities by participating in assessment and development planning activities as well as formal and informal training and coaching; gain or maintain external professional accreditation, where relevant, to improve performance and fulfil personal potential. Project Management: Deliver small‑ or medium‑scale projects while working within an established program management plan. Request for Bid Solicitation / Proposal / Tender Response: Gather information and resources, draft and complete proposals, and fulfill all process requirements in response to bid solicitations, requests for proposal, and requests for tender to create the best chance of being awarded the contract. Qualifications What you will bring to the team: Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering. Professional Engineer (PE) license in NC preferred. Minimum 10 years of experience in the planning, design and construction of water and wastewater infrastructure or treatment facilities. Strong understanding of consulting engineering business and municipal agencies. Business development, proposal preparation, and marketing skills a plus. Excellent written and oral communication skills with proven ability to develop, mentor and lead professional technical staff. The ability to prioritize, track budgets, manage project schedules and anticipate associated upcoming tasks. Willing and able to travel to project sites and client meetings as needed, primarily day trips.
