Fleet & Equipment MechanicLocation: Tempe, AZ Job Type: Full-Time, Hourly Pay: $30–$40 per hour, based on experienceRefined Gardens is looking for an experienced, highly mechanically inclined In-House Mechanic / Equipment Maintenance Technician to take ownership of the maintenance and reliability of our company fleet and equipment.Our operation includes professional landscaping and construction crews that depend on trucks, trailers, small-engine equipment, skid steers, and a mini excavator every day. We need someone who can do more than simply perform scheduled services or replace failed parts. We are looking for a mechanic who can diagnose problems, make repairs correctly, anticipate future maintenance needs, and help us make intelligent decisions about our equipment.This is a full-time, year-round, in-house position based at our Tempe facility.What You'll Work OnOur fleet and equipment includes:Commercial small-engine equipment with both 2-stroke and 4-stroke enginesGasoline-powered company trucksUtility, enclosed, equipment, and dump trailersDiesel-powered skid steers and compact construction equipmentDiesel-powered mini excavatorHydraulic, electrical, braking, and related equipment systemsKey ResponsibilitiesDiagnosis, Repair & MaintenanceDiagnose mechanical, electrical, fuel, and operating problems rather than simply replacing partsRepair and maintain commercial 2-stroke and 4-stroke small-engine equipmentPerform preventative and routine maintenance on our gasoline-powered truck fleetDiagnose and perform appropriate repairs on company trucksInspect, maintain, and repair company trailers, including brakes, bearings, electrical systems, lighting, axles, suspension, and related componentsMaintain and repair diesel-powered skid steers, mini excavator, and other compact equipmentTroubleshoot basic diesel, hydraulic, and electrical systemsPerform oil changes, fluid services, filters, belts, hoses, batteries, brakes, and other routine mechanical workPerform basic welding and fabrication, primarily for trailer and equipment repairsIdentify repairs that should be completed by an outside specialty vendor and coordinate appropriatelyPreventative Maintenance & Equipment ReadinessHelp build, implement, and maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for the company's trucks, trailers, small equipment, and heavy equipmentUse existing company software and systems to track service intervals, inspections, maintenance history, and upcoming service requirementsProactively schedule maintenance to minimize downtime and avoid unnecessary equipment failuresMaintain accurate repair and maintenance recordsCommunicate equipment status and expected downtime clearly to operations leadershipParts InventoryEstablish and maintain an appropriate inventory of commonly used replacement and maintenance partsDetermine appropriate minimum and reorder quantities based on equipment usage and repair historyKeep parts inventory organized and readily availableIdentify opportunities to reduce downtime by stocking frequently needed components without unnecessarily tying up money in excess inventoryEquipment Lifecycle ManagementMonitor equipment condition, reliability, repair history, and maintenance costsIdentify recurring equipment problems and recommend corrective actionProvide management with honest recommendations regarding when equipment should continue to be repaired and when replacement makes more financial and operational senseHelp evaluate equipment purchases and replacement decisions when appropriateShop StandardsMaintain a clean, organized, and safe shopMaintain company tools and equipment in good working conditionIdentify additional tools or diagnostic equipment needed to perform the job effectivelyFollow appropriate safety procedures when servicing vehicles and equipmentWhat We're Looking ForRequiredStrong hands-on mechanical background with demonstrated diagnostic abilityIn-depth knowledge of 2-stroke and 4-stroke small enginesExperience maintaining and repairing gasoline-powered vehiclesWorking knowledge of diesel engines and diesel-powered equipmentWorking knowledge of hydraulic systemsAbility to troubleshoot basic electrical systemsExperience maintaining and repairing trailersBasic welding and fabrication abilityAbility to work independently, prioritize repairs, and manage multiple pieces of equipmentStrong organizational skills and willingness to document completed maintenance and repairsValid driver's license requiredPreferredExperience with skid steers, mini excavators, or similar compact construction equipmentPrevious experience managing preventative maintenance for a fleet or equipment operationExperience using fleet, maintenance, or work-order management softwareExperience in the landscape, construction, rental-equipment, agricultural, or similar equipment-intensive industryBilingual English/Spanish is a plusToolsYou are not required to provide your own tools.Refined Gardens maintains a fully equipped shop and provides the tools necessary to perform the job.
