Jr AccountantAn incumbent in this class performs accounting functions and has direct and indirect responsibility for the accounting functions related to the books and records assigned. Work is performed under general supervision of the Accountant II title. The position independently performs accounting work in connection with a variety of accounting assignments and does related work as required. The work is primarily of a routine nature.Typical Work Activities (Illustrative only)Performs all accounts payable functions using software provided (Tenmast at present)Processes daily cash receiptsAssists in month end closing processPrepares schedules for and provides support to the Accountant II and other titlesProcesses monthly reconciliations for some bank accountsPosts journal entries to ledgersProcesses utility bills, including tracking of usagePerforms related work as requiredRequired Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesThorough knowledge of office terminology and computer equipmentBasic knowledge of accounting principles and practicesExperience with the use of spreadsheets, word processing programs and other related Microsoft Office programsAbility to accurately prepare accounting recordsHigh degree of accuracyAbility to understand and carry out oral and written directionsAbility to organize and plan work assignedAbility to communicate well with othersPhysical condition commensurate with the demands of the positionMinimum Qualifications(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree (or higher) in accounting or closely related field and three (3) years full-time paid satisfactory experience working in the Accounting field; OR(B) Graduation from high school and Five (5) years of full-time paid satisfactory experience working in the Accounting field OR(C) Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.Grade 9Salary $49,271.96
