Job Title: Forklift Operator and Material Handler

Job Description

This role operates forklifts and material handling equipment to safely load, unload, and move products within a busy paper processing and manufacturing facility. The position supports warehouse and production operations by transporting materials, maintaining accurate inventory, and following all safety and quality standards while performing general labor tasks as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Operate sit-down forklifts and related equipment equipped with forks, clamps, grapples, or lifting platforms to load, unload, and transport materials safely and efficiently.
  • Load and unload semi-trailer trucks and move products to designated storage, staging, or production areas.
  • Use order pickers, pallet jacks, and electric pallet jacks to perform order picking, order pulling, and palletizing activities.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and promptly report any maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Conduct safety checks on lifts, lubricate equipment, recharge batteries, fill fuel tanks, or replace liquefied-gas tanks as needed.
  • Maintain accurate inventory counts, verify product information, and report any discrepancies or damage.
  • Follow all company safety, quality, and operational procedures while working on the production floor and in warehouse areas.
  • Assist with general warehouse and physical labor tasks, including loading, unloading, and material handling as required.
  • Recognize spatial limits such as doorways, shelves, and aisles to place materials safely and prevent damage.
  • Navigate warehouse layouts efficiently to support logistics, material flow, and timely production support.
  • Lift, carry, and move materials in accordance with physical requirements, including up to 50 pounds.
  • Complete basic documentation and inventory reports, and read labels and work instructions accurately.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6+ months of consistent forklift (FL) experience.
  • Proficiency in safe forklift operation, including maneuvering through aisles, ramps, trucks, and storage areas.
  • Knowledge of forklift load capacities, dimensions, and balance requirements.
  • Ability to recognize spatial limits such as doorways, shelves, and aisles to ensure safe material placement.
  • Familiarity with warehouse layouts and material handling processes.
  • Experience operating sit-down forklifts, order pickers, pallet jacks, and electric pallet jacks.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including loading, unloading, and general material handling tasks.
  • Capability to exert 20–50 lbs occasionally, 10–25 lbs frequently, and up to 10 lbs constantly.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs occasionally and 20–50 lbs frequently.
  • Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • Reading and writing skills sufficient to follow work instructions, read labels, and complete inventory reports.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures and operational standards in a loud manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in logistics, material handling, and general warehouse operations.
  • Experience in order picking, order pulling, loading, palletizing, and general labor.
  • Comfort working in environments with occasional exposure to weather, humidity, vibration, and various atmospheric conditions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a loud production setting and remain focused on safety and quality.
  • Strong attention to detail when handling materials and maintaining inventory accuracy.

Work Environment

This position is based in a paper processing and manufacturing facility with a very loud production floor. You work around heavy equipment and moving machinery, with occasional exposure to weather, humidity, vibration, and various atmospheric conditions. The noise level is loud, and hearing protection may be necessary depending on specific tasks and areas. The role involves frequent physical activity, including lifting, carrying, loading, unloading, and general material handling. Steel toe or composite safety shoes are required at all times on the production floor. You will use forklifts, order pickers, pallet jacks, electric pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment in a fast-paced warehouse and production environment, following established safety and operational procedures.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Covington, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $16.25 - $16.25/hr.
