A Police Explorer is a young adult who is interested in law enforcement and who volunteers time to worthwhile activities in his/her community. In addition, an explorer learns self‑confidence, self‑respect, and some hands‑on experience in dealing with the public. Police Exploring is for young adults who care about law and order and who want to be where the action is. Law enforcement needs honest and bright young minds to fill its future ranks. Activities Patrol Ride‑Alongs Traffic Control Searches Report Writing Communications Records Crime Prevention Community Relations In addition to the training, the explorer will be expected to participate in Explorer Post activities such as: Parades Field Trips to Other Agencies Hiking Trips Locally Sponsored Youth Safety Runs Fun Trips to the Beach and Amusement Parks Regularly Scheduled Meetings Special Events An approved Explorer Academy Must be 14 to 20 years old. Education : Must maintain a "C" average or better, maintain a good attendance record or have a high school diploma, if applicable. Conduct : No criminal convictions. Good personal conduct is essential. Applicants must have a positive attitude and obey all laws. A Background Check will be required of all applicants. Permission: All applicants under l 8 years of age must have parental consent to participate. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this class, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work under intensive deadlines; and interact with all levels of management, staff, customers, the public and others encountered in the course of work.
