Principal Project Engineer

The Position

Although there is a salary range for this position, salary will be negotiated depending on experience. This recruitment will be used to establish an open competitive and promotional eligibility list that may be used to fill this vacancy and vacancies occurring in this classification for a minimum period of six (6) months. Plans, directs and reviews the work of assigned staff on a project or team. Performs complex and advanced professional level engineering duties in support of transportation construction, plans, and studies. May supervise assigned staff.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Working Conditions: May work shifts on days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements

Education and Work Experience: Equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in engineering or a closely related field and five (5) years of demonstrated professional engineering experience. License and Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid Class C driver's license at time of application. Must possess and maintain a valid Professional Engineer (PE) license from the State of Nevada. Background investigation: Employment with the Regional Transportation Commission in this position is contingent upon the results of a comprehensive background investigation, including qualifying education/experience verification, social security trace, criminal history records review, and driving history records check. • Ability to lead transportation planning and grant funded projects
• Ability to prepare technical reports, presentations, and agenda item backup for committees
• Ability to manage the budgets for the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and Complete Street Program
• Demonstrated knowledge of regional and national engineering standards and design manuals for roadway design, safety improvements, and complete streets
• Ability to communicate and coordinate effectively with internal staff, partner agencies, and the public

Physical Demands

Physical ability to perform office and related work, including operating computers and office machinery; stamina to sit for extended periods of time; strength to lift and maneuver materials weighing up to 25 pounds; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Example Of Duties

Manages a project and/or team in the accomplishment of engineering initiatives. Manages assigned consulting contracts; ensures compliance, timeliness and quality of deliverables. Oversees transportation construction; interfaces with other agencies, interest groups and the public to obtain input, garner support and coordinate efforts. Represents the RTC in meetings with groups or individuals; answers queries and provides information/assistance as required. Participates in professional development sessions or seminars; stays current on trends, innovations and legal developments in the engineering field. Operates a variety of office equipment, to include computers and associated software. Leads and conducts a variety of assigned analysis, models, scenarios and special projects as assigned by supervisor. Provides input to supervisor for the evaluation of the performance of assigned staff. May supervise assigned staff. Participates in staffing and employee relations related activities for assigned staff. Oversees safety and security responsibilities for areas assigned and ensures that direct reports are trained on safety and security procedures, fully compliant with procedures, and held accountable for breaches in safety and security protocol.
