Registered Nurse Post Surgical Unit Part Time

Position Summary We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Registered Nurse, Labor and Delivery, Per diem (Evening Shift). In this role, the successful candidate carries out patient care responsibilities with emphasis on decision‑making related to the steps in the nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, identification of expected outcomes, planning, implementation and evaluation—providing competent, safe and compassionate care based on established NYU Langone Health patient care and nursing standards. As a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, formulates the initial plan of care with the provider (physician or nurse practitioner) and collaborates with them to implement a comprehensive patient‑centered plan of care to achieve expected outcomes; utilizes principles of assignment and delegation consistent with the NY State Nurse Practice Act. Job Responsibilities Demonstrate a solid foundation and understanding of organizational goals as outlined within the quality and safety performance improvement plan (QSPIP) and nurse sensitive quality indicators (unit based quality measures such as HAPU, CAUTI, CLABSI, Falls). Collect, assess and document patient healthcare data. Involve patient/family and interdisciplinary team to identify a plan of care and realistic, measurable outcomes. Prioritize care based upon data collected. Document assessment and reassessment in medical records. Implement interventions in coordination of patient care in a safe, timely and appropriate manner and apply the escalation process. Consider needs and behaviors of specific patient age groups and cultural groups in all patient care activities. Document interventions per hospital standard. Educate the patient/family regarding health status and established plan of care. Determine learning needs of the patient/family, implement an educational plan, and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to modify expected outcomes. Document learning outcomes and revise education plan (including utilization of EHR education tools). Evaluate the patient's progress toward expected outcomes, involving the patient/family and interdisciplinary team in the evaluation process, recognizing changes in patient condition, reporting documents and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions. Participate in and contribute to unit activities to provide patient care in a healing, humane and caring environment. Demonstrate understanding of and contribute to unit throughput efficiencies and metrics (unit throughput measures such as DBN, door to triage, assign to occupy, first case starts, room turnover). Comply with unit‑based and organizational professional standards, the NewYorkState Nurse Practice Act and regulations of relevant outside agencies, e.g., NY State Department of Health, The Joint Commission, regulatory requirements. Exhibit appropriate judgment in delegated activities and demonstrate ability to differentiate activities in scope of professional nursing practice versus those that may be delegated to ancillary staff. Comply with annual education and mandatory/regulatory requirements (including learning transcript and supportive documentation). Serve as a support and resource for nursing staff and students. Engage in self‑assessment and peer review; utilize resources to meet individual learning needs and promote professional development in clinical practice. Adhere to patient care and nursing standards in care delivery and use clinical practice guidelines (CPG). Attend unit practice councils (UPC) and utilize the practice council structure to critically appraise and influence practice (including supportive evidence). Minimum Qualifications Current Registered Professional Nurse in NewYork. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred. Basic Life Support Certification through the American Heart Association. Fluent written and spoken English language skills. Required Licenses Registered Nurse License - NYS. Basic Life Support Certification. Preferred Qualifications Membership in pertinent professional organizations. Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization. Salary NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the NewYork state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $51.28 – $52.82 hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses, incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
