Founded in 1952, the Institute continues to train physician-scientists and manage healthcare programs for 60,000 underserved families throughout South Los Angeles.SUMMARYThe Postdoctoral Research Fellow will conduct basic and translational research investigating the mechanisms regulating vascular permeability during sepsis. The research will focus on endothelial cell responses to physiological shear stress and signaling pathways associated with vascular leakage. The Fellow will conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data, prepare manuscripts and figures for publication, and present research findings in laboratory and scientific meetings.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESPerform experiments using vascular endothelial cell monolayers under shear stress conditions to investigate vascular leak in sepsis.Perform real-time measurements of endothelial barrier function and permeability using Electrical Cell-Substrate Impedance Sensing (ECIS).Perform molecular biology techniques, including Western blotting, ChIP assays, cell culture, and analysis of signaling pathways.Maintain animal colonies and perform permeability studiesUse human blood vessel organoids to investigate vascular permeability pathwaysPrepare research figures and manuscripts for publication.Present research findings in laboratory meetings and scientific forums.Perform other related duties as assigned to support the research program and organizational needs.QUALIFICATIONSRequired QualificationsPhD in a relevant biomedical/biological science disciplineResearch experience in endothelial biology, vascular biology, sepsis, or related fieldExperience with cell culture and molecular biology techniquesExperience analyzing and interpreting experimental dataAbility to communicate research findings effectivelyPreferred QualificationsExperience with fluid shear stress modelsExperience with vascular permeability assaysExperience with vascular organoidsExperience with animal modelsExperience with ECISPrior peer-reviewed publicationsEDUCATIONPhD from an accredited research universityPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSAbility to stand and work in a laboratory environment for extended periods.Ability to lift and carry laboratory supplies up to 25 pounds.Manual dexterity sufficient to operate laboratory equipment and perform research procedures.Ability to use a computer for extended periods.WORK ENVIRONMENTWork EnvironmentResearch laboratory setting.Exposure to biological specimens, laboratory chemicals, and research animals.Compliance with all institutional safety protocols and animal care regulations.Please ensure your application is complete and signed; incomplete submissions will not be considered.Position requires a background check and health clearanceEqual Opportunity Employer/Affirmative Action/Drug-Free Workplace #J-18808-Ljbffr
