PUBLIC SAFETY DISPATCHER

Job Description and Duties

MCC is a Public Safety Answering Point. PSDs answer 9-1-1 calls, public and allied agency calls, and make outgoing calls to service providers, allied agencies and the public. PSDs operate voice radio to dispatch and interact with field personnel. PSDs complete data entry into various databases. This classification requires a certified typing speed of 40 words per minute.

Working Conditions

Monterey Communications Center (MCC) PSDs are on a 4/10 alternate work week. MCC is located on the pristine central coast 17 miles from the Monterey Bay, 35 miles from Santa Cruz, and less than 2 hours from the San Francisco Bay Area.

Special Requirements

• The position(s) require(s) a Drug Screening be passed prior to being hired.
• The position(s) require(s) a Background Investigation be cleared prior to being hired.
• The position(s) require(s) Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
• The position(s) require(s) a(n) Typing Certificate. You will be required to provide a copy of your certificate prior to being hired.

• The CHP utilizes their own Public Safety Dispatcher certification list. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications for the Public Safety Dispatcher  classification to be eligible to take the examination. In addition to applying for the examination, applicants MUST submit an application to this Job Control in order to be considered for the position.

• Incumbents currently in the classification who are eligible to transfer shall upload a completed and signed CHP 220N, Request for Transfer-Nonuniformed, form to this job control. The most senior same-class transfer applicant who responds by the final filing date shall be selected. CHP 220N link:

• This position requires the ability to type at a minimum speed designated on the Classification Specifications (link available in the minimum requirements section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed prior to being hired.  Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests:

• Possession of Minimum Qualifications will be verified prior to appointment. To satisfy the minimum qualification requirement with education, you must include your unofficial transcript(s)/diploma for initial review. Original diploma or official, sealed transcripts will be required prior to the start date. Applicants with foreign transcript(s)/degree(s) must provide a third-party transcript/degree credential evaluation that indicates the number of units to which the foreign coursework is equivalent.
