Primary City / State Phoenix, Arizona Department Name Work Shift Day Job Category Phlebotomy Overview We are seeking patient focused, dedicated phlebotomists to work in Southern AZ, in a variety of outpatient settings. These roles will work with all patient ages and will provide excellent diagnostic care. Position Summary This position may be located within a Hospital Facility, Patient Service Center (PSC), In Office Phlebotomy (IOP) or Mobile Diagnostic Services (MDS). It may be responsible for coverage at multiple locations. The role includes collection and receipt of biological specimens, proper entry into the company’s computer system, preparation of samples for analytical testing, and distribution of specimens to the appropriate analytical area. This includes responsibility for pre- and post-analytical testing and may involve performing specified analytical testing as assigned. All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards. Core Functions Perform specimen collection, general laboratory specimen processing, or referral laboratory processing. Ensure correct patient and specimen identification, maintain specimen integrity, and use appropriate techniques for all age criteria. In IOP locations, manage client relationships within compliance regulations. Enter and verify patient demographics, location, physician data, requested tests, time and date of collection, clinical information, and all pertinent data on requisitions and computer-generated orders. Verify accuracy of entered information and appropriateness of specimens received. Aliquot and label specimens according to established procedures, deliver to technical area promptly, or perform initial processing and preparation for transport. Assist in monitoring workflow and training new employees. Focus on quality by ensuring all work performed is accurate and complete. Complete documents legibly and accurately per site protocol. Follow established methods and practices, maintain familiarity with departmental procedures, use appropriate documentation for communications, and initiate computer-generated reports as required for patient reporting and quality assurance. Meet departmental standards for productivity and quality, provide input to committees or Six Sigma teams, and maintain acceptable specimen rejection rates. Participate in departmental financial responsibilities through appropriate use of supplies and materials, avoid excessive waste, and support initiatives to reduce costs and improve service. Demonstrate basic knowledge of billing and commit to an error-free work environment. Communicate courteously and professionally with internal and external customers. Interact with co-workers with an emphasis on teamwork and customer service. Resolve basic service issues, attend meetings, and remain current with internal/external communications, including e‑mail and newsletters. Acknowledge and understand the importance of patient rights and privacy (HIPAA). Physical Demands / Environment Factors Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach and stretch frequently. Required to lift, push and/or pull up to 25 pounds. Requires manual dexterity and use of standard precautions. Must distinguish colors, take direction, assimilate instructions quickly, use computer, printers, copiers, telephone, fax and department-specific equipment. Minimum Qualifications Minimum age requirement of 18. High school diploma or equivalent may be required depending on state regulatory requirements. Basic knowledge of department resource materials. Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience. Phlebotomy certification as defined by state regulations. Position may require DHS Fingerprinting Certification or ability to obtain fingerprint certification. Must possess a valid state driver's license in the state of employment and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy. Float positions require travel, flexible hours, work at multiple locations, and coverage of mobile or in-office phlebotomy facilities with minimal notice. Must be flexible and available for staffing requirements, weekends, holidays, overtime, and occasional on-call duties including weekends, evenings and early AM. Progression through career ladder II‑IV is subject to completion of career ladder requirements. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual (Spanish/English). Knowledge of medical terminology.
