Basic Function

Under general supervision, operate a truck in the delivery of food and supply items to sites and catered events. Perform set-up of various functions and to do related work as required.

Essential Functions

Drives a light truck, making deliveries as needed. Checks and loads various orders for delivery. Fills vending machines as needed. Prepares paper supplies and beverages as needed for catered functions. Performs other duties of School Lunch Helper. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • Drive a light truck safely
• Follow oral and written instructions
• Operate machines found in school cafeterias
• Keep all necessary records
• Receive cash and make change accurately and quickly
• Maintain cordial working relations with co-workers, children, school staff and public
• Set-up buffet tables for catered events

Knowledge of:

• Basic food preparation procedures
• Operation of light truck
• Safe driving practices and traffic laws
• Basic mathematics
• Sanitation principles applicable to food preparation, serving and food transport

Serve Safe Certified.

Education & Experience Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade or informal education sufficient to insure ability to perform job duties; Six months experience as a Helper II or Cafeteria Delivery Driver or work experience equivalent to six months of recent commercial Catering/Driving.

Other requirements:

Possession of a valid California driver's license is a continuous requirement.

Selection Process

The examination process for this recruitment may be comprised of one or any combination of the following: screening of the applicant's training, background, and experience; scored evaluation of responses on a supplemental application; written examination(s); qualifications appraisal oral examination; performance examination; or technical oral examination, scored on a job-related basis. Only the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the examination process. Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit as determined by these competitive examinations.
