Anesthesia Technologist

The Anesthesia Technologist plays a critical role in supporting anesthesia care and ensuring the proper functioning of anesthesia equipment. This position involves assisting in the preparation and operation of specialized equipment, collaborating with clinical staff, and contributing to patient safety during surgical procedures.

Specific Responsibilities

• Patient Care Support (20%): Assist in the care of patients undergoing anesthesia, including preparation of anesthesia equipment prior to the patient's arrival, placement of monitoring devices, and ensuring the cleanliness and availability of necessary equipment and supplies. Collaborate with anesthesiologists, residents, CRNAs, and anesthesia technologists to meet their needs, and assist with difficult intubations and central line placements.
• Equipment Operation (20%): Operate the cell-saver machine and manage lab report tracking. Participate in various surgical cases including cardiac, liver, vascular, thoracic, and trauma surgeries. Provide on-call coverage as required.
• Equipment Maintenance and Support (20%): Ensure anesthesia equipment is functioning correctly and that preventive maintenance is performed. Set up and troubleshoot sophisticated equipment while serving as the key resource for specialized devices.
• Training Development (15%): Support the Chief Anesthesia Technologist in creating and implementing training programs for staff. Assist in educating team members on their roles and responsibilities related to anesthesia technology.
• Equipment Set-Up and Troubleshooting (15%): Perform set-up and troubleshooting of anesthesia equipment, including infusion pumps, nerve stimulators, defibrillators, and transport monitors. Test and calibrate anesthesia machines and connect fiberoptic bronchoscopes to video monitors.
• Room Preparation (5%): Set up surgical rooms between cases and manage equipment carts, providing a comprehensive set-up at the end of the day. Liaise with other units to ensure availability of specialized anesthesia equipment for out-of-OR procedures.
• Supervisory Support (5%): Provide backup to the shift supervisor during their absence due to vacation or illness and perform other duties as needed as assigned by supervisory staff.

Required Qualifications

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Two years of experience as an Anesthesia Technologist

Preferred Qualifications

• A four-year college degree, including technical training, or a two-year college degree with related technical training and two years of experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
• Certification by the registry of the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists or a recognized professional certifying body is preferred.
