Position Description

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct behavioral support and intervention services to students with special needs, primarily those with autism or developmental disabilities. The RBT works under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to implement individualized behavior intervention plans within school settings.

This is an itinerant position, and the RBT may travel between multiple Charleston County School District locations based on student needs. Assignments may change throughout the contract, including transitioning between students, schools, and work hours as needs change. Reliable transportation and flexibility are required.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver one-on-one Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to assigned students.
• Implement Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) designed by a BCBA.
• Collect, record, and maintain accurate data on student behavior and progress.
• Support the development of communication, social, self-help, and adaptive skills.
• Use evidence-based techniques, including reinforcement, prompting, and redirection, to reduce challenging behaviors.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and behavior specialists to support student goals.
• Maintain confidentiality and professional standards in all interactions.
• Assist with crisis intervention and student safety when necessary.

Position Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Current Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
• Experience working with children or individuals with disabilities preferred.
• Ability to follow structured behavior plans and accept feedback.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to work directly with students in various classroom settings.
• Ability to safely manage challenging behaviors.
• Ability to maintain accurate documentation and meet compliance standards.
• Adherence to ethical guidelines established by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
• Reliable transportation and flexibility to travel between school locations and adjust assignments based on student needs.
