Job Summary

The Planner Specialist II - Machinery is a key member of the NRM & Construction organization responsible for the planning, coordination, and execution support of all rotating equipment work associated with capital projects, turnarounds, routine maintenance, and emergent repairs.

This position is responsible for developing safe, efficient, and cost-effective work plans for pumps, compressors, steam turbines, fans, blowers, gearboxes, and other critical rotating equipment. The Machinery Planner develops detailed job packages, labor and material estimates, Bills of Material (BOMs), contractor work scopes, and execution strategies that maximize equipment reliability while minimizing operational risk.

The successful candidate serves as a technical resource and planning leader by working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Reliability, Engineering, Procurement, Project Management, and Contractors to ensure work is executed safely, on schedule, and within budget while supporting the refinery's commitment to Operational Excellence.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities:  

• Ensure all planning packages include appropriate hazard identification, risk mitigation, permitting requirements, energy isolation (LOTO), confined space, hot work, line opening, lifting and rigging, and other applicable safe work practices.
• Verify refinery Life Saving Rules and Operational Discipline requirements are incorporated into every work plan.
• Participate in field audits, pre-job safety reviews, toolbox meetings, post-job reviews, and incident learning opportunities.
• Continuously improving planning processes that enhance personnel safety, equipment reliability, and execution quality.

Qualifications: 

• Minimum seven (7) years of experience with rotating equipment in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, power generation, or heavy industrial facilities.
• Demonstrated experience in maintenance planning, turnaround planning, project planning, or rotating equipment execution.
• Working knowledge of centrifugal pumps, reciprocating compressors, centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, gearboxes, blowers, fans, seals, bearings, lubrication systems, and auxiliary equipment.
• Strong understanding of refinery maintenance practices, planning processes, and contractor management.
• Proficiency with SAP, Primavera P6, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.
• Experience developing job plans, cost estimates, schedules, Bills of Material (BOMs), and contractor work scopes.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, operational discipline, and continuous improvement.

• Experience supporting refinery turnarounds and major capital projects.
• Knowledge of API standards applicable to rotating equipment.
• Experience with Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM), or Machinery Reliability programs.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary planning teams and contractor coordination.
• Knowledge of QA/QC processes and refinery work management systems.
