Department Summary

The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation (KHPR) at the University of North Texas has over 1,100 students and offers a bachelor and a master’s degree in Kinesiology and a Ph.D. in Human Performance and Movement Science. Graduate students can specialize in applied physiology, performance psychology, or movement science. The research laboratory supporting this position is the Applied Physiology Laboratory.

The Applied Physiology Laboratory (APL) is a collaborative research facility which includes a large well-equipped biochemistry laboratory space with state-of-the-art equipment. In addition, the APL also has separate dedicated and well-equipped research spaces for exercise testing (aerobic and strength), muscle and adipose biopsies, phlebotomy, body composition assessment (DXA and BIA), heat exposure and an array of cardiovascular and autonomic testing. The research spaces and major equipment in the APL are shared among KHPR faculty. Further information about facilities and equipment in the APL is available upon application and request.

UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.

Position Overview

The Department of Kinesiology, Health Promotion and Recreation in the College of Public Affairs and Health Sciences at the University of North Texas invites applications for a tenured/tenure-track Associate Professor of Exercise Physiology with expertise in sports nutrition and/or nutritional supplementation.

We are seeking an accomplished scholar whose research advances the understanding of nutrition's role in exercise performance, recovery, health, and human adaptation. The successful candidate will bring an established research program and a passion for mentoring students while helping shape the future of exercise physiology at one of the nation's leading research universities.

The successful candidate will:

• Lead and expand a nationally recognized, externally funded research program in sports nutrition and/or supplementation.
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in exercise physiology, sports nutrition, metabolism, and related disciplines.
• Mentor master's and doctoral students while fostering a collaborative and productive research environment.
• Publish high-impact scholarly work and present research at national and international conferences.
• Develop interdisciplinary collaborations across the university and with external partners.
• Provide leadership in curriculum development, faculty mentoring, and strategic program growth.
• Contribute to departmental, college, university, and professional service.

• Precision nutrition and individualized performance strategies

Minimum Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology, Nutrition, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a closely related discipline.
• Qualifications for appointment with tenure at the rank of Associate Professor.
• An established, continuous record of peer-reviewed publications demonstrating sustained scholarly excellence.
• Evidence of a successful, externally funded research program.
• Demonstrated excellence in graduate and undergraduate teaching.
• Experience mentoring graduate students and early-career faculty.

Preferred Qualifications

• National or international recognition in sports nutrition and/or nutritional supplementation research.
• Ongoing and transferable externally funded research grants
• Experience developing and leading interdisciplinary research initiatives.
• Leadership experience within academic programs or professional organizations.
