Crew Supervisor, Wastewater Collection

Job Overview The purpose of this classification is to perform technical tasks at the supervisory level on an assigned shift, performing various construction, repair, maintenance, and operational activities in support of the Wastewater Department Collection system of the City of Alexandria. This position is subject to a 24‑hour call and responds to emergency calls during inclement weather or other emergencies. Responsibilities Organize, schedule, supervise, assign, review, and inspect operations, maintenance, and construction activities of the wastewater collection system on a shift. Supervise assigned crews, instruct and assign work, maintain standards, coordinate activities, allocate personnel, address employee problems, evaluate work processes, and provide advice and assistance as needed. Receive, review, and respond to work orders; assign projects and develop plans for completion; monitor status of work in progress; inspect completed work; consult with staff on complex issues. Monitor work in progress and ensure compliance with established standards; advise crews in techniques and practices; review reports; prepare requests for materials and supplies. Provide input in the development of specifications for equipment and material procurement; assist in receiving, inspecting, sorting, and issuing required parts and supplies; monitor use of supplies and inventory levels. Review timesheets, overtime reports, and related documents; analyze and respond to difficult customer complaints or problems. Perform technical tasks in support of wastewater department operations; supervise collection system repairs; supervise installation of sewer mains and taps; locate and prepare video of sewer lines; conduct mechanical repairs on pumps; troubleshoot electrical problems. Utilize various tools and equipment to perform required field work, including an amp meter, voltmeter, CCTV push camera, electronic locator, and heavy equipment such as backhoe, front‑end loader, lawn mower, and weed eater. Qualifications Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in wastewater collection and operations, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Louisiana ClassIV Wastewater Collection certification. High school diploma or GED required; candidates with lesser certifications may be considered, with a written transition plan to achieve ClassIV certification upon hire. Must possess a valid driver’s license; require obtaining and maintaining a State of Louisiana ClassD driver’s license within 60 days of appointment and maintaining it throughout employment. May be required to obtain and maintain ClassA or B commercial driver’s license.
