Special Education Non-Public Teacher SpecialistEnsures the provision of a Free and Appropriate Public Education for students with disabilities in nonpublic Special Education placements; provides case management of all nonpublic student referrals and placements; has general knowledge of available nonpublic programs and services for students; serves as the Individualize Education Programs (IEP) Chairperson of all meetings for students in nonpublic placements.Reports To: Director/Supervisor(s) of Special EducationEducation, Certification, and Experience: At the time of application, the candidate must hold or be eligible for:A Master's degree.Current Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate.A minimum of three (3) years of successful teaching experience in special education.Experience with students with significant behavioral and learning disabilities (preferred).Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills: (These are pre-employment knowledge, abilities, and skills that apply to the Essential Job Functions.) At the time of application, the candidate must have:Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to students, teachers, staff, parents, and community members.Demonstrated ability to problem solve in a leadership role.Demonstrated ability to multi-task and follow through to meet deadlines effectively.Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to special education.Experience with writing compliant Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).Knowledge of and experience with the Maryland On-line IEP.Possess a valid driver's license and motor vehicle insurance.Demonstrated success in accomplishing tasks akin to the responsibilities listed below.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Calvert County Public Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.Essential Job Functions, Responsibilities and Duties:Complies with state and federal regulations for special education.Serves as the IEP Chairperson for all IEP meetings of students placed in nonpublic schools.Completes paperwork associated with IEP meetings, including meeting invitations/notices, prior written notices, etc.Maintains accurate, complete, and organized IEPs and confidential records.Complies with five-day, annual review and evaluation timelines.Attends IEP meetings for students referred to nonpublic placement.Attends monthly meetings with agencies to facilitate referral, placement, and discharge of students in nonpublic placements.Attends local transition meetings with the Student Services Department to facilitate a smooth transition for those students returning from out of county/state placements.Observes and monitors the nonpublic special education programs to ensure that services are implemented according to the IEP.Assists the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) with on-site compliance monitoring of nonpublic schools.Collaborates with school personnel to facilitate placement, assessment, and attendance at meetings.Collaborates with community agencies to facilitate referral, placement, and discharge of students.Prepares and submits nonpublic applications to MSDE accurately and in a timely manner.Prepares and submits the required paperwork for those students referred to out of state placements.Submits all nonpublic cost sheets and budget reports to MSDE accurately in a timely manner.Acts as the liaison between CCPS and the nonpublic schools.Attends professional development, trainings and other meetings related to nonpublic placements sponsored by MSDE, other agencies, or organizations.Keeps the Director of Special Education abreast of new students, changes in placement, nonpublic invoices, budget-related information, and issues to be resolved.Compiles and submits timely and accurate data and reports as mandated by state and local requirements.Represents Calvert County Public Schools at local and state meetings as necessary.Works with local agencies to identify community resources and assist school personnel and parents in accessing community resources for students at risk.Travels to various sites in and out of the county.Thinks, concentrates, and interacts positively with others.Comes to work promptly every day.Works under stress and meets all deadlines.Other Duties: (Duties listed are not intended to be all inclusive nor limit duties that might reasonably be assigned.)Performs related work as required or assigned by the Director/Supervisor of Special Education.License or Certification: Current Maryland Advanced Professional Certificate.Special Requirements: None.Physical Demands: Position requires periods of standing and walking.Unusual Demands: Extensive travel outside of county/state is required.FLSA Status: Exempt.Terms of Employment: Eleven (11) month position and salary commensurate with qualifications and experience applied to the current Calvert County Public Schools salary schedule for teachers. If selected for this position, the candidate must enroll in direct deposit.Application Procedure: Application deadline is open until filled. Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a drug screen. Current employees of the Calvert County Public Schools are exempt from these requirements.House Bill 486 – Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct Prevention StatementPursuant to Section 6-113.2 of the Education Article, Annotated Code of Maryland - House Bill 486 - Child Sexual Abuse and Sexual Misconduct Prevention all applicants are required to report all former employers in which you may have had direct contact with minors.
