Safety and Security Specialist

Position Title: Safety and Security Specialist Location: Public Safety Department Salary: $24.51/hourly Reports to: PublicSafetyDesignee Bargaining Unit: N/A Benefits Eligible: Yes Telecommuting Eligibility: Not eligible for telecommuting Position Summary The Safety and Security Specialistisresponsible forthe coordination, scheduling, and general oversight of non-sworn security personnel and coordinatestraining andmaintainstraining recordsfor securityofficers. TheSafety and Security Specialist must have a working knowledge of security functionsand processes andis also responsibleforconducting interviews of security candidates. The Safety and Security Specialistwillbesolution-orientedandpossesstheability towork well with various departments within The Detroit Public Schools Community District.If conflicts arise between security and school administrators, thespecialistswill act as a liaisonin the resolution process. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma orGED FIve (5) years security experience Ability to useOutlook, Microsoft Office,Excel,PowerPointand Smart Sheets Flexible schedule, ability to work overtimeand weekendsas needed Essential Functions Oversight of security personnel. Receiving sick calls and relaying this information to school building administrators, as well as attendance tracking. Regularinspection of security officeruniforms and performance. Collaboration with building leaders for disciplinary matters involving security officers. Assistingwith creating and implementing performance improvement plans for security officers whofail tomeet minimum securitystandards. Conducting interviewsofsecurity officer candidates. Scheduling security officer coverage for DPSCD events, such as athletic events, school board meetings, and general community use requests for security officer coverage. Scheduling and coordinating security officer coverage for summer school. This includes creating andmaintaininga standby list of officers to fill in due to call-offs and other absences. Assistingwith payroll functions to ensure security officers are paidin a timely manner. Perform other duties as assigned Security Clearance Internal Applicants If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance, unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.
