Cytotechnologist Ft Myers, FLPosition Summary:As a Cytotechnologist you will precisely and accurately perform a variety of routine and specialized Cyotechnology procedures. You will research, troubleshoot, and resolve cytology related inquiries and problems within the laboratory. This position will require the staining, mounting, and initial screening analysis of cells to detect evidence of cancer and other pathological conditions following established standards and practices. Immediate evaluation preparation, staining and initial analysis may also be required.Responsibilities:Receives cytology specimens and ensures proper specimen ID, accessioning and labeling of all tissue samplesProcesses paperwork associated with accessioning and reportingPerforms routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides for cytology evaluation by pathologist(s), according to established SOPs Submits slides with abnormal cell structures to pathologists for further examinationExamines cell samples to detect abnormalities in the color, shape, or size of cellular components and patternsProvides patient clinical data or microscopic findings to assist pathologists in the preparation of pathology reportsMaintains effective laboratory operations by adhering to standards of specimen collection, preparation, or laboratory safetyExamines specimens using microscopes to evaluate specimen qualityHelps maintain acceptable productivity, TAT and workflowReports problems concerning individual cases, tests, equipment, and supplies to the department supervisor or lead technologist to ensure timely resolutionExperience & Required Qualifications:Associate's degree in the field and complete a one-year internship or complete a long-term training program in a cytology labThree years or equivalent experience as a Cytotechnologist preferredASCP license in Cytology and current Florida Cytology license requiredBasic understanding of laboratory techniquesPossesses appropriate computer skills to accomplish tasksAbility to communicate effectivelyStrong organizational skills and attention to detailAbility to work independentlyMust be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards
