This position is responsible for the analysis, design, development, configuration, implementation, and maintenance of enterprise databases and data analytics systems, including MaineDOT’s Data Marts and centralized Data Warehouse.Potential candidates should be confident in their database and data warehousing skillsets, as a large portion of assignments will require these skillsets . This helps to keep boredom at bay and provides tremendous opportunities for those who like to contribute their experience and ideas towards our shared organizational goals.WHAT WILL YOU DO?As S enior P rogrammer A nalyst within the Database and Data Warehousing Team , y ou will be expected to serve as a senior Technical Lead on complex data-intensive projects . This might often include designing, testing, implementing, deploying, and supporting Extract, Transform, and Load operations . At times it will involve designing and implementing new subject areas within our Enterprise Data Warehouse and/or related D ata M arts . It will also include a great variety of other data-related assignments in support of both our analytical and transactional databases.Assignments related to database design, implementation , and support will be common . This will include both Online Transactional Processing systems (OLTP) as well as Online Analytical Processing systems (OLAP) .Senior Programmer Analysts are expected to be able to mentor and train less experienced developers in complex technical concepts when the need arises and are expected to be good students when new processes and/or technologies are introduced to the team.Our existing systems and processes also include a fair amount of operational and maintenance needs, and that will be part of the ongoing responsibilities as well.Assignments often require frequent interaction with both technical partners, as well as business stakeholders . Related requirements gathering, analysis, and documentation assignments are common and should be expected . Employees in this classification are competent to work at the highest technical level under limited supervision.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:K nowledge of data system design techniquesKnowledge of S ystems D evelopment Life Cycle (SDLC) and documentation standards.Knowledge of structured systems methodologiesKnowledge of higher-level programming languages and enterprise class application development toolsAbility to diagnose and correct system malfunctionsAbility to adapt and enhance application softwareAbility to design, conduct, and evaluate system testingAbility to lead, coordinate the activities of, and provide technical support to project teamsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Four (4) years of computer programming experience utilizing higher level languages including two (2) years at the Programmer Analyst level or equivalent -OR- a Bachelors Degree in Computer Sciences including two (2) years at the Programmer Analyst level or equivalent.
