As a member of Cooper Steel's team, performance includes demonstration of the following accountabilities: communication, teamwork, job knowledge and leadership.Position SummaryThe welder is responsible for understanding structural blueprints and welding techniques to execute the highest standards of welding performance.Primary Duties And ResponsibilitiesInterpret blueprints to fabricate structural steelDetermine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirementsOperate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be weldedWeld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positionsSet up components for welding equipment in accordance to specifications (e.g. cut material with oxy/fuel torch to match measurements)Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flawsMaintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safetyEnsure work is done safely and meets quality standardsKeep work areas clean and organizedRequirementsProven experience as welderExperience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (flux-core, MIG weld)Experience in using electrical or manual tools (grinder, squares, tape measure, hand tools)Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawingsKnowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)Attention to detailAbility to learn safe overhead crane operationsProficient in EnglishProfessional Certification (e.g. an AWS welding certificate) will be a plusSupervisory ResponsibilitiesNo supervisory responsibilitiesQualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Lifting is required up to 75 lbs. Must be flexible in hours worked and willing to work overtime.Work environment: Position performs work mostly in the shop setting which includes a variety of working conditions. These include the following conditions: noise level fluctuations from moderate to high, use of personal protective equipment, machine/equipment use. Position involves everyday risks or exposure to elements that require safety precautions. Position will be required to work in adverse weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold, precipitation, etc.
