UTILITY TECHNICIAN

Utilities Series Position

This is the first of four levels in the Utilities Series. Under direct supervision, incumbents perform daily operation and maintenance duties of various water production, water treatment, waste collection systems, wastewater treatment plants, and lift stations.

• Routine maintenance including greasing and cleaning of plant equipment;
• Daily record keeping;
• Perform laboratory and field analyses;
• Reading and interpreting meters and gauges
• Routine ground maintenance
• Perform sampling and routine process control tests
• Respond to emergency calls 24/7
• Locate problems and operate sewer cleaning equipment to clear stoppage
• Assist in installing new water and sewer services.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This position does not require supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D) and one year of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS Valid Driver's License as per State law or requirement Also, the ability to obtain the following certifications within two years of hiring based on job assignment:

• Wastewater Treatment Certification Level 1
• Wastewater Collection Certification Level I
• Water Treatment Certification Level I
• Water Distribution Certification Level I
• Water Production Certification Level I

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; moving traffic; high, precarious places; and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold, and extreme heat.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

UNIFORM An employee in this position will be supplied with a uniform, provided by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury. The employee is responsible for abiding by the Police Jury's Uniform Agreement.

RETIREMENT Employees are required to participate in the Parochial Employees' Retirement System of La. (Plan A) upon date of employment.
