Cloud Engineer (API Management)

The Cloud Engineer (API Management) is responsible for designing, implementing, and supporting scalable, secure API ecosystems. This role leverages Google Cloud Platform and Apigee to enable high-performance API services, streamline integrations, and enhance developer accessibility through API marketplace capabilities. The position plays a key role in connecting backend services with consumer applications while ensuring reliability, security, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement API proxies, security policies, and traffic management solutions using Apigee (Edge or X) to support scalable API architectures
Manage API Marketplace and developer portal platforms to enable API discovery, documentation, and self-service capabilities
Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines for API deployments using tools such as Terraform, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins to support efficient and reliable releases
Enforce API security standards including OAuth2, OpenID Connect (OIDC), and JWT while implementing threat protection, rate limiting, and encryption best practices
Monitor API performance, latency, and reliability metrics, proactively identifying and resolving issues across distributed systems
Partner with application and engineering teams to define API contracts (OpenAPI/Swagger), transformation logic, and integration patterns
Create and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including API specifications and developer-facing resources

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience
3–5 years of experience in cloud engineering with a focus on API management or API gateway platforms
Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP), including Apigee implementation and support
Proven experience managing API marketplaces, developer portals, or similar API ecosystem tools
Proficiency in infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform, Crossplane, or Pulumi
