Assistant Professor or Associate Professor of Clinical Practice, Family Medicine; Palliative Care

The Palliative Care team at the University of Washington Department of Family Medicine seeks a Full-Time Assistant or Associate Professor of Clinical Practice. The successful candidate will be expected to support the department's commitment to excellence in teaching and service in a diverse and inclusive academic community. The expected start date is July 1, 2026, or soon thereafter.

Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).

Associate Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).

The base salary range for Assistant Professors will be: $16,750 $21,000 per month ($201,000-252,000) annually commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

The base salary range for Associate Professors will be: $19,584 $22,500 per month ($235,008-270,000) annually commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

All Department of Family Medicine faculty report to the Department Chair. This position will also have accountability to the Director of Palliative Care.

This position expects that the faculty hired will participate in departmental activities for the Department of Family Medicine, while their clinical work will be focused on palliative care. They are expected to participate in the teaching mission of the Department, especially as it relates to their clinical work and expertise. The FTE represents clinical scheduled time and administrative/teaching time. This position is funded by clinical revenue.

The clinical work will include inpatient palliative care consultation for the UW Medicine Palliative Care Service, which potentially includes activities at 3 hospital sites (University Washington Medical Center Montlake and Northwest hospitals and Harborview Medical Center). Future clinical work could include outpatient palliative care agreed upon by the faculty hire, and sites of practices would include UW Medicine clinics sites.

Clinical duties will include palliative care consultation to medical teams, patients and families, nursing and social services, and spiritual care staff. The candidate chosen will be responsible for providing palliative care independently and collaboratively with appropriate privileges, including initial and ongoing assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients' medical, physical and psychosocial status. The successful candidate is also expected to teach, mentor and advise residents, fellows and medical students. In addition to clinical work, teaching, scholarship, and service are integral to all Clinical Practice positions.

Promotion criteria is based upon the quality of the candidates contributions to the academic and clinical mission of the department and School of Medicine as outlined in the SOM appointment and promotion guidelines.
