Staff RN-H5A Acute Care Cardiology/Surgical Unit

In the Acute Care Cardiology/Surgical Unit we treat patients of all ages, specializing in surgical and medical patients with diverse diagnoses. We are expanding our Heart Center patient population to provide medical cardiac management for children and adolescents with heart and vascular disease. This RN position is a 0.9 FTE / 36 hours per week rotating shift with every other weekend. Unit Characteristics 6‑bed unit within an existing surgical unit Nurse‑to‑patient ratio 1:3 Approximately 75% of patients are under six months old Fast‑paced, collaborative team environment Job Description Summary Assists patients through their episode of care with a focus on safety and quality, delegating, directing, and providing developmentally appropriate care. Practices professional nursing and promotes patient advocacy in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics and maintains a current Ohio Nursing License. Essential Functions Provides nursing care using a family‑centered approach. Assesses individualized patient needs and communicates priorities to LPNs, PCAs, unit coordinators, and allied health personnel. Plans, implements, educates, and evaluates care using evidence‑based practices. Utilizes therapeutic communication while monitoring the physical, psychological, and social needs of patients and families. Engages in the workplace community by staying aware of changes, participating in data collection or auditing, understanding quality improvement, and representing staff at relevant meetings. Documents according to organizational standards, policies, and procedures. Education Requirement BSN or Associate degree with commitment to obtain BSN within 5 years of hire. Licensure & Certification Licensed Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio. Current CPR certification required. Must be willing to obtain and maintain NRP, PALS, ACLS, APHON, or other necessary certification as determined by management. Physical Requirements Occasionally: biohazard waste handling, climbing stairs/ladder, driving motor vehicles, handling 41–60 lbs and 61–100 lbs, operating machinery, power tools, pushing/pulling ≥100 lbs with assistance, reaching above shoulder. Frequently: bending, twisting, exposure to blood and bodily fluids, chemicals, communicable diseases, depth perception, electricity, lifting 0–10 lbs up to 61–100 lbs, pushing/pulling up to 100 lbs, repetitive hand/arm use, sitting, squatting/kneeling. Continuously: audible speech, color vision, computer skills, decision making, hearing acuity, interpreting data, peripheral vision, problem solving, seeing far/near, standing, walking.
