Building Automation Controls Systems Designer

Responsibilities Design, configure, and operate complete building control systems including fire, security, and other low‑voltage subsystems (e.g., lighting, nurse call, data networks) to meet project requirements. Accountable to field teams for the quality, timeliness, and efficiency of designs. Develop complex software programs, commission, and troubleshoot building control systems to ensure proper operation. Provide detailed information and submittals to communicate design and operation to customers, consultants, field installation teams, and subcontractors. Create flow diagrams, sequence of operations, bill of materials, network layouts, and electrical schematics as required. Develop and test software programs necessary to operate the system per the project intent. Coordinate and produce necessary drawings and equipment schedules for submittals and installation. Select, order, and track material delivery for assigned projects. Coordinate factory‑mounting processes to meet factory and project schedules. Assist in loading and commissioning system and network‑level controllers. Validate complete system functionality and troubleshoot issues with subcontractors and other trades. Provide field change information for the creation of as‑built drawings and software. Keep management, contractor, and customer informed of job progress and issues. Assist in site‑specific training for owners/operators on the total building control system. Participate in release meetings with the project field team. Perform value engineering to deliver cost‑effective results while maintaining customer satisfaction. May provide work direction to Systems Design Assistants. Adhere to safety standards and maintain a high regard for employee and subcontractor safety. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 3 years’ experience. Demonstrated knowledge of the construction or HVAC industry. Experience with control theory, automatic temperature controls, building automation systems, and other building subsystems. Experience integrating low‑voltage building subsystems using industry protocols such as LON, BacNet, etc. Ability to communicate technical knowledge to a non‑technical audience. Advanced computer skills, particularly in drafting tools.
