Overview Senior Trial Attorneys in Nationwide’s Legal team provide independent, lead counsel for civil litigation related to property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation. The role involves managing a mix of commercial and personal lines cases across multiple courts and agencies, while demonstrating trial advocacy skills, proactive case management, and collaborative use of technology. Key Responsibilities Serve as lead counsel or team member, handling all matters in accordance with NTD standard methodology and client expectations. Work independently with minimal managerial oversight while maintaining a highly productive case volume. Utilize technology and collaborate with support staff to enhance case management efficiency. Stay current on legal, technological, and procedural changes that impact litigation strategy. Provide factually, legally, and analytically sound opinions on case valuations. Build and sustain professional relationships with key stakeholders in the Office of the Chief Legal Officer and claims partners. Play a key role in expanding NTD’s reputation and referral network within the enterprise. Communicate effectively, proactively addressing client, claims and internal expectations. Mentor junior attorneys and NTD staff, offering guidance, training and feedback. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications Juris Doctor from an accredited law school. Active state license in the location of the position. 8+ years of experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation civil litigation. Significant litigation experience, including complex legal practices in all courts and agencies. Proficient written and verbal communication skills; strong negotiation and analytical capabilities. Computer savvy with basic software proficiency. Strong time‑management, organization, and decision‑making skills. Ability to prioritize and coordinate complex projects and cases. Leadership ability for direct or indirect influence, mentoring, and business development. Commitment to legal and ethical standards per state rules and corporate policies. Job Conditions Exempt, not eligible for overtime. Normal office environment; position may allow work from home. Frequent travel, occasional overnight stays. Valid driver’s license with satisfactory record. Benefits Medical / dental / vision coverage. Life insurance, short and long‑term disability.
