Senior Cost Accountant

The Cost Accountant is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting project costs to ensure accurate job costing, budget adherence, and profitability tracking. This role works closely with project managers, operations teams, and senior management to provide financial insight into project performance and support strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Track and maintain job costs for multiple projects, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and overhead expenses.
• Review and analyze project budgets, actual costs, and cost-to-complete estimates.
• Prepare job cost reports and profitability analyses for management review.
• Reconcile job cost accounts and ensure accurate allocation of expenses.
• Investigate and explain budget-to-actual variances.
• Assist project managers with cost forecasting and financial planning.
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end closing activities.
• Support billing, revenue recognition, and work-in-progress (WIP) reporting.
• Ensure compliance with company accounting policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Assist with annual audits and provide supporting documentation as requested.
• Identify opportunities to improve cost accounting procedures and financial reporting processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
• 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in construction, manufacturing, engineering, or other project-based environments.
• Strong understanding of job costing and cost accounting principles.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with ERP or accounting software systems.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
