Job Description

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a highly skilled nursing professional responsible for collaborating with the surgical team to ensure safe and effective patient outcomes during operations. This role requires advanced knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment in the operating room, particularly in robotic surgical procedures.

Job Responsibilities

• Collaborate with surgeons and healthcare teams throughout the surgical process to promote optimal patient safety and outcomes.
• Perform duties of an operating room staff RN when not engaged in the RNFA role.
• Utilize comprehensive perioperative nursing practices and techniques, demonstrating proficiency in both scrubbing and circulating roles.
• Assist in the operative phase of the perioperative experience by practicing under the direction of the surgeon.

Job Requirements

• Valid New York State license as a Registered Professional Nurse.
• Completion of an accredited RN First Assistant program.
• CNOR certification is required.
• Experience in robotic surgery is preferred in one or more of the following areas:
  
  
  • Robotic Urology
  • Robotic GYN
  • Robotic Colorectal
  • Robotic Surgical Oncology (whipples, gastrectomies, hernias, etc.)
  • Robotic Thoracic
  • Robotic General Surgery (gallbladders, appendectomies)
• Minimum of two years of experience in an operating room setting or experience in a Level 1 trauma center is preferred.

Certifications

• BLS from the American Heart Association is required.
• ACLS certification from the American Heart Association is preferred.
• CNOR certification is mandatory.

Work Schedule

This position requires a commitment of either 36 or 48 hours per week, primarily on weekdays with day shifts. On-call responsibilities may be required for evening coverage, and there are no weekend or holiday shifts associated with this role, aside from unit-specific needs.
