If you are interested in working for the vibrant City of Alexandria, we invite qualified candidates to apply for our Portfolio Manager position.An OverviewThe Portfolio Manager performs responsible work in managing a portfolio of City facilities, including facility operations, maintenance, compliance, support for emergency response and event support, and capital improvement initiatives. The position applies project management principles, technical expertise, and leadership to ensure facilities are safe, functional, compliant, and operationally reliable.This role is responsible for balancing day-to-day operational demands with longer-term planning and project execution, ensuring that facility needs are addressed across maintenance, compliance, and capital improvements. The Portfolio Manager supervises facilities staff and coordinates resources, vendors, and stakeholders to support both ongoing facility operations and project-related efforts.Work is performed with considerable independence, and the employee exercises sound judgment in prioritizing operational needs, managing resources, and supporting project delivery. The Department of General Services staff strives to provide our customers with unmatched services by proactively managing the City's assets to support the delivery of services to the City of Alexandria, responding to service requests in a timely manner, listening to our customers, and ensuring that our customers are satisfied with the resolution.Minimum & Additional RequirementsFour-Year College Degree from a professional architectural or engineering program or related field; extensive experience of project management and supervisory experience managing teams, providing technical expertise and leadership for design and construction projects for either government or private industry; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.Preferred QualificationsExperience in facilities management or building operationsExperience managing multiple facilities or portfoliosFamiliarity with CMMS systems (Cityworks or similar)Knowledge of public procurement processesCertifications such as:Certified Facility Manager (CFM)Facility Management Professional (FMP)Relevant trade or technical certificationsNotesThis position requires the successful completion of pre-employment background checks including but not limited to a criminal background.
