Underwriting Consultant - Fine Arts (Hybrid or Remote) We are seeking an Underwriting Consultant to join our Fine Arts team based in Chicago, IL or New York City, with the option to work remotely on the East Coast. The role involves underwriting complex Fine Art and specialty risks, managing a book of business, and driving growth and profitability in the assigned territory. The opportunity The position includes selecting and rejecting new and renewal business, developing strategic initiatives to grow the Fine Art book of business, and managing high‑value account relationships with private collectors, museums, galleries and dealers. You will act as a senior resource and subject‑matter expert in Fine Art underwriting, coaching junior staff, and serving as a key liaison among producers, brokers, and internal stakeholders. Maximize opportunities for underwriting profitable new and renewal Fine Art business, leveraging broker relationships, product knowledge and underwriting expertise. Develop and maintain an active target account list, tracking prospects, account rounding, and missed opportunities. Manage financial performance of all assigned Fine Art products including loss ratios, premium plans, and commission targets. Underwrite and manage a Fine Art book of business across transit, exhibition, and static risks, ensuring underwriting quality, portfolio management, and compliance with standards. Demonstrate strong understanding of Fine Art exposures and key coverage issues such as transit, exhibition, security, environmental protections, catastrophe exposure and valuation. Make underwriting decisions to accept, decline or modify risks within the highest authority levels. Implement underwriting decisions in compliance with state laws and applicable international considerations. Structure specialized Fine Art coverage solutions, including all‑risk policies, wall‑to‑wall transit coverage, and exhibition or consignment coverage arrangements. Build relationships with producers, brokers, wealth managers, art advisors, and institutional partners to promote growth and profitability. Travel as needed to key producers, collectors, and institutions and maintain visibility through industry events, art fairs, and broker meetings. The expertise you bring Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. 7–10 years of progressively more complex underwriting experience, preferably in Fine Art, Inland Marine or High‑Net‑Worth segments. Additional background in art history, appraisal, or museum practices is a plus. Compensation and benefits include a target base salary ranging from $151,000 to $201,000 for most locations, or $176,000 to $206,000 for senior metros (San Francisco, Washington DC, New York City, and Massachusetts). Full‑time employees are eligible for bonus potential and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k) with up to 12% annual contribution, paid parental leave, and additional voluntary benefits.
