Nursing Assistant PositionUnder the supervision of the Registered Nurse and in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures, the Nursing Assistant assists in caring for patients and/or families from admission through discharge.The Nursing Assistant is a paraprofessional trained to provide personal care and related health care assistance to individuals who are sick, disabled, or infirm. The role supports patients who are residents of or receiving services from healthcare facilities or agencies licensed by the State of Rhode Island. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Providing personal care to patientsPerforming basic Nursing Assistant skills as outlined by the Rhode Island Department of Health Professional Licensing and Facility RegulationAssisting with daily activities of living and ambulating patients as appropriateMaintaining a safe environment by reporting unsafe conditions, malfunctioning equipment, or hazards to the Registered Nurse, manager, or supervisor, and removing equipment from service as neededRecognizing and reporting pertinent signs, symptoms, and patient observations to the Registered NurseMaintaining quality assurance and infection control practices in accordance with hospital and department policies and proceduresAccurately documenting patient care and clinical data in the electronic health record (EHR) and patient care flowsheetsDemonstrating the ability to perform responsibilities during emergency or code situationsFunctioning as a patient observer when requiredPerforming other related duties as assignedBasic Knowledge:Current Rhode Island Nursing Assistant licenseHigh school diploma or equivalent preferredBasic computer skillsCurrent American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) certificationKnowledge and skills necessary to provide care across the lifespan, considering aging processes, stages of human development, and cultural patternsExperience:One year of experience as a Nursing Assistant preferredWork is performed in healthcare environments such as acute care hospitals, physician offices, and ancillary healthcare settings. Prolonged sitting, standing, and walking required. Repeated bending, squatting, and stooping. Ability to lift, turn, and assist patients and equipment as necessary.Works under the supervision of a Registered Nurse within hospital and department policies and the regulations of the Rhode Island Department of Health.
