Staff Backend Engineer
Virtual Vocations Inc
To enhance developer experience and accelerate software delivery, the full-time Staff Backend Engineer will design and build systems for developer tooling, architecture, and workflows, while working remotely or from one of the US offices. Key responsibilities: Design and build tools, SDKs, and evaluation frameworks to improve software delivery and integrate AI-assisted development workflows Architect core systems for reliable development across backend, mobile, and data, including observability and governance for developer tooling Mentor engineers and influence architectural decisions to balance reliability, developer velocity, and operational costs across multiple teams Required qualifications: 12+ years of experience in designing and operating backend or platform systems at scale, with strong programming skills in Go, Python, or similar Deep experience in owning architecture for complex distributed systems and making impactful architectural tradeoffs Strong background in developer platforms and internal tooling, including designing APIs and building reusable libraries Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and improving developer experience Proven experience with AWS and cloud-native systems, with a focus on reliability and observability
