School Social Worker

Job Description: School Social Worker

Qualifications:

• Master's of Social Work (MSW) degree, licensed social worker preferred
• Minimum of two years of social work practice with children and families preferred
• Vehicle to use on the job to travel within the district

Essential Duties:

• Conduct assessments of student strengths and needs
• Provide crisis intervention services
• Provide long and short-term case management services to individual students and their families
• Facilitate group counseling with at-risk students to address social/emotional obstacles
• Link students and their families with school and community resources
• Assist families with understanding school and district policies and procedures
• Advocate for the needs of individual students within the home, school, and community environments ∙ Coordinate services with community agencies and school personnel
• Conduct home visits
• Develop and coordinate prevention activities and intervention strategies that promote a safe, caring, and drug-free school environment ∙ Promote parental involvement in the educational process
• Complete documentation and maintain records as required by MPS Office of Student Support Services
• Assist with supervision of student interns ∙ Participate in on-going professional development training
• Establish a positive relationship with students, parents, co-workers, volunteers, and other visitors
• Complete other tasks as assigned

The funding for and duration of this position are finite, Pursuant to the Students First Act of 2011, Section 4(3)(b), tenure may not be gained by time served in this position.

Special Note: For employees starting work after the beginning date of the work term, the salary will be pro-rated and based on the number of contract days left in the school year, divided by the remaining months in the contract year.
