Job Description

This role focuses on designing, developing, and optimizing modern software tools and platforms that accelerate clinical trial development and help deliver life-changing medicines to patients more quickly. You will work across the full stack to build scalable, production-grade web applications, leveraging cloud infrastructure, AI-assisted development tools, and modern DevOps practices in an Agile environment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with a cross-functional team of engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to translate complex requirements into scalable end-to-end software solutions.
• Build and maintain highly responsive, intuitive user interfaces and applications using modern JavaScript and ReactJS.
• Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive automated test suites, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, using modern testing frameworks to ensure high code quality and software reliability.
• Drive DevOps best practices by building and managing robust CI/CD pipelines, such as GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, to support automated testing and continuous deployment.
• Provision, manage, and monitor cloud infrastructure on AWS, utilizing containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Participate in the full software development lifecycle within an Agile environment, including system design, coding, code reviews, and architecture planning.
• Apply AI-assisted development tools to enhance coding efficiency, improve testing coverage, and streamline documentation.
• Support and optimize data-intensive applications that manipulate and visualize complex datasets, ensuring performance and reliability.
• Contribute to operational support for production applications, including system monitoring, incident response, and infrastructure troubleshooting.
• Design and refine end-to-end automated test frameworks to maintain quality and reliability across complex production web applications.
• Write and optimize SQL queries to improve database performance on platforms such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Develop software solutions that align with relevant industry data standards and regulatory requirements, including 21 CFR Part 11, GxP, and HIPAA/GDPR.

Essential Skills

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience focused on building and supporting scalable, production web applications.
• Proficiency in backend development using Python, with experience in frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Proficiency in frontend development using modern JavaScript (ES6) and ReactJS.
• Experience with AWS and modern DevOps and deployment practices, including Docker, CI/CD tools, and Infrastructure as Code.
• Hands-on experience writing automated tests and working with modern testing frameworks for both front-end and back-end applications.
• Effective use of AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor, or similar technologies to improve coding, testing, and documentation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a commitment to writing clean, maintainable, and testable code.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment and communicate technical concepts clearly.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience building data-intensive applications that manipulate and visualize complex datasets.
• Hands-on experience providing operational support for production applications, including system monitoring, incident response, and infrastructure troubleshooting.
• Experience designing and developing robust end-to-end automated test frameworks for complex production web applications.
• Proficiency in SQL for writing complex queries and optimizing database performance, particularly with PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Knowledge of industry data standards and regulatory compliance frameworks such as 21 CFR Part 11, GxP, and HIPAA/GDPR.
• Experience or interest in artificial intelligence and its application to software development and testing.
• Experience working with modern DevOps practices and tooling, including containerization, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code.

The engineering team builds and operates production-grade web applications using a contemporary stack that includes Python (FastAPI, Flask, Django), JavaScript (ES6), ReactJS, AWS cloud services, Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation. CI/CD pipelines, using platforms like GitHub Actions or GitLab CI, support automated testing and continuous deployment. AI-assisted development tools are actively encouraged to enhance productivity and quality across coding, testing, and documentation. The environment is focused on reliability, scalability, and regulatory compliance, with a strong emphasis on data-intensive applications, robust testing frameworks, and secure handling of sensitive information. This is a Contract position based out of South San Francisco, CA.

The pay range for this position is $65.00 - $72.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
