R&D Technician II

Location: Plymouth, MN 55442

100% on-site; approximately 85% lab time, 15% desk time. Contract to hire.

Position Overview

Join our client’s research and development team as an R&D Technician II, where you will play a key role in hands-on testing and support of medical device projects. This is a temp-to-hire opportunity for candidates interested in long-term growth within a collaborative and safety-focused laboratory environment.

In this role, you will perform a variety of mechanical, electrical, and visual tests on medical devices, maintain accurate documentation, and communicate closely with engineers. The position is 100% on-site and offers a dynamic mix of lab and desk work.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical, electrical, and visual tests on medical devices
• Follow detailed written and verbal instructions
• Maintain accurate documentation using good documentation practices
• Communicate test results and observations to engineers
• Adhere to safety protocols and use appropriate safety equipment
• Utilize lab tools and equipment such as calipers, MTS, multimeters, digital thermometers, force gauges, Cognex, LabView, and hand tools
• Balance workload between lab and desk tasks (85% lab, 15% desk)

Qualifications

• Required:
• • 1–4 years of relevant experience or post-high school education
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and work independently
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Preferred:
• • Familiarity with medical device testing or product assembly
  • Experience in R&D or testing environments
  • Document drafting experience
  • AA degree or post-secondary education

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has a solid work history with demonstrated reliability, such as 2+ years at the same company, and career progression or transferable skills relevant to testing or mechanical work. Hands-on, focused individuals who are interested in long-term growth within the team and not seeking a steppingstone role will thrive in this position. Candidates with a BS in engineering or a master’s degree are considered overqualified, and those with BS degrees in chemistry, biomedical, or physics are typically not a fit due to long-term retention concerns.

Work Schedule

100% on-site in Plymouth, MN. Approximately 85% lab time and 15% desk time. Hours over 40 per week are paid at time and a half.
